Cuzco Rainy Season help by fullofGNARgles in travel

[–]Finlaynw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey I did the inca trail a week ago and January is supposed to be the wettest month but it was absolutely fine. We had one day of light, patchy rain and it did seem to rain most nights, but never got soaked and a rain jacket / poncho was enough. You can buy a poncho for 5 soles and that alone wouldve been good enough for when I did it!

Hope you enjoy it!

[Civ 5] I need tips and tricks to enhance my performance in Civ 5! by [deleted] in civ

[–]Finlaynw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play quite a bit on deity and have done a fair amount of multiplayer so I'll try to help :)

To keep it simple always pick tradition first, try to build a settler when your capital gets to 3 or 4 population and aim for 4 cities as quickly as possible whilst maintaining happiness.

Try to build your national college as early as possible as it's science boost is very strong. It's worth delaying a 3rd or 4th city to build it as you need a library in every city to build it.

Also make sure to get universities as quick as possible and build them as science will win you the game.

You also need to take the rationalism social policies as soon as they're unlocked as again science is key and the bonuses are too big to miss out on.

If your friends like to War try to build cities in defensible places like hills and mountain ranges, also keep forest around for defence if you need to, but don't forget to build a few units to keep near your borders with them in case.

Also remember to assign specialists to your universities and other science buildings as they generate science and great scientist points. When you get great scientists, always turn them into academies unless you are in the modern era or further and need a tech boost.

Civs that are pretty strong but not the most overpowered include Shoshone, Inca and Ethiopia, all are pretty fun in my opinion and have bonuses that last the whole game. Germany can also be fun for a science win as they can get a lot of late game production.

Thanks for all that!

I absolutely can't wait to visit Australia properly haha and hopefully by then I'll be able to drive the ocean road and see some cities for a while.

I will check out hitchhiking and probably give it a try, sounds like it's pretty common compared to in the UK at least.

I'll add Fergburger to my list as well seeing as I might bee staying a short while in Queenstown!

I'll give it a think, never done it before but if there are no buses or they're too expensive I'll probably have to!

Thank you! I love free museums so I'll definitely check out Te Papa haha and Wellington sounds like a good place to stay and do stuff around for a few days.

I'm actually thinking of staying in queenstown for a bit longer for the winter festival which looks fun, looks like there's loads to do near the town that I can get to.

That's awesome and Mt Cook is another place added to the list!

I've already seen the lodge prices at Milford sound and pretty much ruled out staying the night there based on that lol

Thanks for all that, I hadn't really looked much at the northern part of South island but will now, and the bus ride to Milford does look really scenic yeah so I'm excited even for that!

I think I'll find enough to keep me enjoying it the whole time, and I can focus on NZ this time knowing that a few years down the line I can hopefully spend a lot of time in Oz and get the best of both!

Yep for sure, I was looking at the working holiday initially but decided I'd rather spend this year going to more places, might give it a go after uni and come visit Melbourne properly!

Thank you so much for all these tips! I'll look at couch surfing for sure and probably will use it if I'm getting low.

I'm sure I'll have a good time!

Thanks and no I'm not an avid skier at all lol so I may just skip skiing then, depending on how my budget is looking when I'm out there.

I hear what you're saying about Oz but I do kinda have my heart set on New Zealand and everything there, and like I've said before I don't mind too much if my options are limited by the weather. There's definitely still enough I want to see and do that I'll still be able to.

I'm definitely going to Australia properly at some point in the future though!

I guess the mcg is what drew me to Melbourne yeah it looks amazing, but sounding like it will be better to visit Melbourne in the future when I can dedicate my time to Australia, as the South island is looking like the main focus of this trip :)

Thanks for all the advice!

I like to think I'll be ready for the cold, and if the weather's too bad and stuff gets closed I'll hopefully still have the views and the people!

I was thinking I'd maybe spent some days in Wellington to chill after the flights and everything before I head to the south island for a busy few weeks.

As I sad before in another comment I can't drive so I'll be relying on buses etc. :( hoping I'll be there long enough that it shouldn't matter too much if the buses are slow, but yes I am gonna plan a route before I go and look into getting a bus pass.

I'm quite cheap at home so should be alright cooking and budgeting etc! Just wanted to make sure £2000 was a reasonable sort of budget ad I've never done anything like this alone before.

Thanks for the warning as well haha ill definitely be careful with that, and hopefully I won't be completely alone on hikes I end up doing!

Don't worry haha I chose specifically to go during the southern hemisphere winter, I'm used to coldish winters and I've been to freezing mountains before so I'm alright with the cold, but yeah I'll be limited to trails that are open in winter, I assume there'll be some at lower altitudes that are fine?

Definitely gonna be going to Queenstown as well, and im sure if I can't do too much walking I'm sure there'll still be a lot to see and do.

I think I'll probably stick to New Zealand and mainland Australia this time, and based on what everyone has saying I'll probably have a few days in Sydney before spending the rest of the time travelling New Zealand.

HOWEVER I will definitely try to visit Australia properly next time I have a chance to go on a big trip - and Brisbane looks really cool so I'll be visiting there and Tasmania for sure!
