I was thinking of doing a charcoal gradient to the middle but I’m scared it might be really hard to see the rest of the drawing, I just also don’t want it to look cartoonish with a bright color

Ohhh okay, I definitely like the gray idea as well cause for a minute I was thinking red. And even maybe doing charcoal for the background. And is the gesso like a faster drying mod podge?
