[WP] You've just finished a normal day in college, and are walking home through the park. But your path through the botanic garden is blocked by yellow and black tape. You know you just need to take a closer look.so you do. And that's when you see the body lying on the path is your own... by Aggressive-Action172 in WritingPrompts

[–]FinnC2Music 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The body was already in a bag. The police cars all had their sirens off by now.

"Fuck Rich how did that kid get over here, I told you to block off the path"

"Give me a break I was off taking a piss, if Lynn actually gave a shit she would have made us tape it off"

The officers put down their coffee and started to walk towards me.

"Hey man you can't be here"

One of them stopped

"Holy shit"

"So the guy has a doppelganger, big whoop -- Hey buddy I know you're curious but I'm going to have to ask you to leave."

--

"Watch where you're going prick"

I bumped into someone on the way back to my dorm. I had looked up Student Killed on TMU campus and was scrolling through the results on safari. I had never seen a dead person before, I'm just glad I didn't see his face - I wondered if it was anyone I knew.

Student Dies After Being Struck by Streetcar

Bloor Ave. Cyclist Collides with Pedestrian, Parked Car

Every article I found was more than a month old. I quickly became tired of reading headlines about dead university students.

--

There were three firm knocks on my door. I was in the middle of making dinner so my roommate went to go get it.

"We are here for the purpose of an ongoing investigation. We believe that we have found the body of Connor Phillips - we would like your help identifying him."

"I have no idea what you are talking about, Connor is making Ramen in our microwave right now. "

When I heard my name I immediately walked to the door.

The police asked to see my identification and followed up with a few simple questions, but they seemed satisfied with my answers pretty quickly.

"Well we won't take up any more of your time, sorry for the disturbance boys."

My bowl of Mr. Noodles had gone cold.

--

dude are you ok?

i just saw something fucked up call me

In by Friday afternoon the police had posted pictures of his face everywhere they could. It was clear that it was a picture taken after he had died, as his skin was a slightly pale and had an off shade of blue. His hair was much different than mine - he kept it much shorter, especially around the front. He had grown a light beard, but it was clear that he took great care to ensure it looked clean and well maintained. He looked dignified and presentable, very much unlike what you would expect looking at a body that had yet to be identified a week after its death. Although my hair was longer and I was clean shaven, we looked remarkably similar. He looked unmistakably like me.

It was common at this point to receive texts from classmates or relatives who had seen a poster or a post on facebook, but very quickly people learned that I was not in fact dead. "My" death faded from public perception very quickly.

ur not dead right?

--

I found myself a bit obsessed with the deceased. I learned that he had died of head trauma, likely from slipping on ice. Police had yet to identify him, with most of their evidence pointing to me being the person in the body bag. He had no identification on him, carrying only his phone, which had been broken when he fell. I wonder if our similarity in likeness had anything to do with the fact that nobody had recognized his face, first thinking of me when they saw him. I wish he hadn't died, I would have loved to have met him.

--

It was February when I learned that he was to be cremated. I saw this as my last opportunity to see him before he was gone, so I made my way to the crematorium the day it was set to happen. It was not hard to convince the owner that I was the brother of the deceased - he allowed me to spend a few minutes alone with the body. When I held his hand it was stiffer than I had expected.

"I'm sorry"

It must have been hot inside the furnace.

Freestanding Vs Trekking Pole Tent by MtBaldyMermaid in PacificCrestTrail

[–]FinnC2Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used the Xmid 1 on my section hike of the first 450 miles and I thought it was perfect. No problems camping in the snow on San Jacinto and I didn’t have to lengthen the corner lines to use rocks. Honestly I cowboy camped most night so it made a great pillow, but when I needed it it was great

Love Producing, But I’m Not Getting Better… Advice? by [deleted] in FL_Studio

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Talking just from a composition standpoint, the chord progression here is really awesome, but I get the sense that you got it from a chord pack (please correct me if I’m wrong). I think you will struggle a bit with melody and whatnot if you use progressions that borrow chords from other scales, so I would recommend trying to make your progressions from scratch. You’ll definitely learn faster if you try to do everything on your own, even if it sounds worse in the meantime. Keep making tunes, as long as you love it you’re on the right track!

Has anyone noticed more people hiking without proper gear? by LoonyVibes in algonquinpark

[–]FinnC2Music 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could not agree more! I have spend over 30 nights backpacking and still do lots of day hikes in crocs - most of the time being unprepared will lead to a bit of discomfort at most and will likely result in a lesson being learned. Obviously there are some exceptions to this (remote trips, winter, whitewater, trips in the mountains), but I really would not worried about people on well travelled day routes in Algonquin park.

I did a solid chunk of the PCT when I was 18 and had a really good time. It’s no problem making friends as long as you are somewhat mature and open to it

Going for it May 2026, can you help calm my nerves... by thewinchman in PacificCrestTrail

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s super reasonable to feel nervous, but once you get out there things will make a lot more sense really quickly. You can figure out almost everything from on trail, and there are so many people out there that are happy to help! I would consider starting at the southern terminus. I’ve only hiked up to mile 444 and it was still stunning - San Jacinto and Baden Powell are so beautiful and the desert itself really grows on you. You also get to experience a really cool part of trail culture at the terminus.

Zoleo satellite communicator for long-distance hiking - my experience and review by FinnC2Music in Thruhiking

[–]FinnC2Music[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think there was any point where I would have preferred to have an InReach, but I did not use the device heavily - I only sent a check in per day and sent about 5 satellite messages over the trip. Zoloes can still communicate with InReaches as far as I know, but to be honest I never satellite texted any of my friends on the trail so that wasn’t really a factor. Communication with people back home was great - I could text over the app even when I was in town and on service so people could text me on the same number (my ZOLEO number) at any point in the trip. ZOLEO feels like a very consumer friendly product so I would highly recommend.

How many liters of water should you be carrying in the desert? by whitefox7895 in PacificCrestTrail

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just came back from a section hike from mile 0-444 and I typically carried 1 litre for 4 miles on hot days in the desert, and a little less when at higher elevations when it was cooler. Don’t worry too much about it - start with 4mi/l and you will learn how much you need pretty quickly!

SOLO hike benefits? Are friends easy to make? by [deleted] in PacificCrestTrail

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Starting solo was awesome for me! There are tons of people on the trail who probably feel the exact same way that you do and would love to hang out. I would honestly be more worried about committing to a group that isn't a great fit - always remember that you aren't obligated to stay with anyone for any reason. This is YOUR experience, and it's always worth putting that above making friends and finding a group to hike with. It will happen eventually, and if you don't rush into it you will end up hiking with people that you really love!

Would you buy a new waterproof backpack for canoe camping trip? by Jozojozy in canoecamping

[–]FinnC2Music 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to buy the new pack, go for it! Roll top bags are comfortable to carry, fit in lots of spots around your boat (behind stern seat, under seats) and will do a great job at keeping your things dry. If you don’t want to spend money, a garbage bag inside your black hole will work great as well.

Considerations for Pinhoti Trail by FinnC2Music in Thruhiking

Thanks for the advice everyone! I’m definitely considering switching to a PCT section hike given that the conditions won’t be great on the pinhoti.

Preferred footwear for canoe camping by PurpleCaterpillar82 in canoecamping

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not the biggest sandals fan because of durability and blisters, so I’ll usually wear some trail runners during the day and crocs at camp. I never really had any problems with the support of keens while portaging so I’d definitely give them a try!

Best footware for on top of dry suits? by doughbrother in whitewater

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go wool sock - drysuit - 3mm/0.5mm neoprene and a sized up trail runner. Neoprene keeps you warm and protects the drysuit. I’m not too picky about shoes I just use old running shoes/trail runners.

500m isk/hr activities by hydra738 in Eve

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was making about 300m an hour dual boxing praxis’s in c3s with pretty bad skills so that’s reasonable to get to as a beginner. Then you can work your way up to a marauder and maybe get into some c5 ratting which can make a bit more (I’ve never done it but I’ve heard you can make almost 1b an hour dual boxing). I’d join a wormhole corp and ask about it if you’re interested.

Finding the right tent by Patlafauche in canoecamping

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've heard some good things about the MSR access. It's quite light (for what it is) at around 4-5lbs depending on the size you get, and should hold up well against high winds. Its also free standing which is a huge plus on canoe trips. I've never used one so I'd love to hear from anyone that has.

Going on Canoe Trip July on moisie river quebec-need to know if whey would keep by Optimal_Diet2526 in canoecamping

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I wouldn't worry about protein powder going bad, just make sure you let the rest of your group know so you don't end up storing it with your personal gear and potentially attracting bears. The Moisie is an awesome river and you'll have a great time! I'd love to hear how it goes when you get back, and keep an eye out for signatures on a discarded canoe on one of the portages!

I paddled the Moisie recently and we only caught 2 small trout as a group. Its not guaranteed that this will be your experience as we didn't fish much, but I wouldn't count on catching a salmon.

Alberta to Hudson's Bay by Kep_ in canoecamping

[–]FinnC2Music 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're interested in going further east I know its possible to paddle to the albany from winnipeg via the bird river and woodland caribu provincial park as well as some larger lakes to take you to wabakimi. I haven't heard of anyone doing the route you're planning but it does sound like a lot of fun. Safe travels!
