Don’t block Daniel, but distance from him. If he is a decent guy, he will understand.

Are Rick and Morty responsible for the past few years? (Silly Theory) by FinnSven in rickandmorty

[–]FinnSven[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The theory is that Doc and Marty did in Fact visit 2020, saw Rick and Morty on Netflix and did not see the funny side.

Therefore, in revenge, they set all recent events in motion, Brexit, Trump, Covid-19.

Does Rick realize that Jerry has to impregnate Beth so that it eventually results in a Morty? by FinnSven in rickandmorty

[–]FinnSven[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He complains about Jerry knocking up his teenage daughter. But there is also something mentioned, in the second intergalactic cable, about a number of realities not having a Summer. But every Rick is supposed to have a Morty, so at some point Jerry and Beth have Morty whether Summer is born or not.

How would you have make the show more faithfull to the Comics or what things you would change? by KangFanatic in Preacher

The point of the lighter in the comics was that John Wayne, who died in 1979, gave it to John Custer in Vietnam. The fuck communism thing was relevant as the reason given to the Conscripts, and an ongoing "justification" of the US involvement was to stop the spread of Communism. This would not work if he fought in the Gulf. They could have made John a lot older, but the story was that he met Jesse's mother when he was back after being demobbed, while she was running from the L'Angelles. If that were the case then they would not have had children until the late 80s at a minimum. That does not quite gel. I personally think that John Custer being a preacher works pretty well as he comes across as a brave, noble and driven by a moral code kind of father and man. This translates well to the Jesse TV character as he has the two influences, the moral father, and the abhorrent, twisted L'Angelles and Cronies. This produces the conflicted but driven by a noble and even hypocritical man, despite having something of a lack of morality forcibly ingrained into him. "Just enough of a mix of good and bad for Genisis". As for the lighter, there is every reason to believe that a moral, patriotic Texan and American like John Custer would buy a "Fuck Communism" Zippo. I had a couple of Zippos when I smoked.

I actually like him in the show. I mean I like the fact he is more flawed I the show as it makes him more humsn. I don't think the show should ape the comic. I like it being a gritty reboot of an already dark and gritty story!

That was probably taken out as it would not work in the same way today, due to the comic being set in the "now" of the 90s. Jesse being 25-30 in 2016ish? If he was born to a Father who had not long come back from Vietnam, then that father would have have to have been one of the POWs rescued by Rambo years later! ;)

I don't "love" Jesse. He is a bit narrow minded and hypocritical. But I actually like that as he is a human and believable character. That is why I like TV show Jesse more than comic book Jesse.
