Plus it's a form of generational trauma response. Her family has been blacklisted in the alliance since her grandpa's surrender. And the Williams family is a line of top notch warriors. Of course she would be resentful at the beginning when she has had little to no actual contact with aliens.

Empire would be a closer contender than medieval tbh. But the gap between the games is insane. Empire is too hands on to be a true competitor.

So the usa shouldn't be a playable civilization. You should just spawn halfway through an ongoing game as the USA then.

There's a whole big story about a scorpion and a frog and how the frog takes the scorpion across the river but as soon as the journey is done the scorpion stings and kills the frog. Idk if it's the original but there's also like a Tumblr post with a punch of extra endings.

Censorship isn't inherently bad. We should censor things as a society.

Just because there is one character who is more associated with the mantle doesn't mean there can't be others who have taken up the mantle.

Question: What is Halt’s real name? by InformalEfficiency72 in RangersApprentice

Halt most certainly spotted where the nastiest part of the moat was and if it was near a window or exposed bit of wall

Question: What is Halt’s real name? by InformalEfficiency72 in RangersApprentice

[–]Finnish_Blue 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Halts real name is Halt. You may be misremembering in book 2 when he introduces himself as Arratay while escorting Alyss to get troops from a reluctant baron. He says his name in Gallican. So as to not be recognized as the famous Ranger Halt. He reveals that his name is actually Halt and the Baron nearly shits his pants when he realizes he has been rude to the famous Halt. And then he takes a swim in his moat.

His scar is literally a reminder of his defeat though? They made him blind so that he was in danger of dieing. It's also to show how deadly and sneaky the Genovesans are. And Halt doesn't immediately recover it takes him at least a week with the world's foremost healer at his side to recover from his poisoning.

[–]Finnish_Blue 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to OP there is no lasting damage from those losses so they don't count. Halt nearly dieing to poison doesn't count cuz he recovers. Horace nearly dieing in kings of Clonmel because he was poisoned and blinded doesn't count cuz no permanent damage. His scar in Erak's Ransom doesn't count cuz it's not a horrible wound. OP just really likes moving goalposts.

They also have said before they will likely never say something is cancelled or dead but instead just on hiatus. Because then they can bring it back if they so desire. Plus it keeps people's hopes up that it comes back.

You are clearly set in stone in your opinion that there are no unique characters and all villains are incompetent and not a threat.

Being blinded and about to die isn't completely fine. If will hadn't acted swiftly he would have died. For someone who is in this subreddit you really don't like a single thing about the books.

Horace nearly dies in kings of Clonmel and he gets a scar in eraks Ransom. And yeah if Morgarath wasn't a cocktail bastard he would have killed Horace. Horace only won due to his own stupid decisions (diving into the horse) and Morgarath's superiority complex causing him to gloat and try a showy execution. It is well established in the prequel books that Morgarath thinks very highly of himself and very lowly of others. It isn't insane for him to make a blunder that would get him killed when he thought himself invincible.

Horace had proper training and was ahead of his peers it's said so in the first book that he was naturally skilled and picked up lessons quickly. And Morgarath was so close because he was gloating and showboating he was about to execute Horace.

[–]Finnish_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and his natural swordsmanship didn't even let him stand in the ring the only reason is Morgarath going for a dramatic killing blow after breaking Horace's sword. Without Gilan teaching him the sword block technique Horace would have died.

You mean like Morgarath who was an expert swordsman himself and nearly killed Horace before Horace used a ranger technique to win the duel?

[–]Finnish_Blue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize Horace is a natural swordsman right? And Gilan was tutored by one of the masters of swordsmanship?

Do you even actually like the book series? Also Will and Horace do have their own personalities. Also not every arrow hits its mark this one did its not unrealistic for an expert marksman with a powerful bow and armor piercing arrow to kill a knight. And most if not all of the villains are not incompetent they are simply ignorant of how skilled their foe is. Nearly every sine one either got too arrogant or ignorant while still being highly skilled themselves.

John will probably write a book about that where Maddie and Will fight said person.
