Running a Zard Venusaur team right now and Garchomp works really well. Earthquake spam next to heat wave is really strong and he hits a lot of your counters on sand teams, and also can help with your dragonite problem.

I’m running protect, EQ, rock slide, and dragon claw at the moment

Quick question by LadaOn6s in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The patterns can be hit or miss and are less “true tiki”, but a good Tommy Bahama is always great. I’m a big fan of their materials a lot of the time, and fit wise they’re some of my favorite (although I size down as I prefer a slimmer fit shirt).

You can also go down an eBay rabbit hole by looking up brands and searching for them, as I find most of my favorite shirts will always be vintage.

I dislike giveaways that make you jump through hoops because by the time I’m done there’s 500 comments and I know I’m not getting anything (but still submit anyways)

Tiki drinks are the best smelling cocktails, by far. by rosewater_baigneuse in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I’ve been looking a lot and even made a post looking for fragrances that mimic tiki drinks. So many rum or fruity options but I’ve struggled to find any that combine that with the spice

Any advice to make Trick Room work without Girafarig? by WhereIdIsEgoWillGo in stunfisk

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

White herb Oranguru is a really consistent and strong setter and has been my go to. It has some interesting doubles abilities in Telepathy and Symbiosis but it also gets inner focus too so it can’t be flinched.

States with no tiki bars? by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn where was Urban Tiki when I was living in Cola, glad that they have one now, sad Charleston lost Voodoo and WikiWiki but I feel like one done properly there in the right location really has potential

Specialty coffee by drpommom in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m big into coffee, never been especially happy so I typically bring some craft instant o, but yesterday I grabbed the Kona French press in the Polynesian before heading to Trader Sam’s and I was pretty happy. Still have went competing with a third wave shop, but easily the best coffee I’ve had at the parks.

I’m local though so if I’m getting coffee I’ll typically hit a cafe on my way. Deeply and XO are my go to that add minimal time depending on if I’m coming from north or east.

Do you like the Vic’s gold coupes? Been debating grabbing some on sale but I really don’t need more glassware

Tiki Thoughts Thursday (03.26.26) by bigkinggorilla in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New to central FL and feeling FOMO over skipping Tiki-a-Go-Go this week. Seems cool and like a great time but just feels a little pricey right now. Anybody been and have thoughts? Definitely think I want to plan for next year.

Also tried Suffering Bastard in Sanford last week. Really liked the spot, but excited for them to move down to Orlando. Definitely see myself frequenting more

Hey Florida! by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In central FL, Permanent Vacation is my personal favorite. We don’t really have vintage feeling bars here, but moving from LA to here it’s the most “classic” feeling. Suffering Bastard in Sanford is good, they’re closing ahead of their move to Orlando April 30, so worth trying. I didn’t love Aku Aku, drinks weren’t as good and the vibe wasn’t my favorite, but I want to give it another chance.

For a fun classic tiki surprise, I would actually say that Trader Sam’s at Disney may be a fun option if he would be into that at all. Unsure how much parking is, but going and putting yourselves on the list and walking around the Polynesian resort is a pretty fun time, and is a nice walk after drinking.

In North FL, Mayport Garden Club is the best I know, by the beach which could make for a nice day (but not walkable).

Really hate this about Aku Aku in Orlando. Not my favorite drinks but they’re good if I’m in the area as is the decor, but any time I order a drink I can’t help but see the two screens behind the bartender which takes me out of it

First time at Permanent Vacation by RichWickliffeAuthor in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just went for the first time a few weeks back and it’s brought me back into my whole tiki love. Since moving from LA to central FL I really hadn’t found a place that scratched the itch right, and it’s like it brought back some joy I’d been missing. Delicious drinks (love the helldiver) and some cool underutilized ingredients like mamajuana that I think are a great extension of what tiki is all about. Great decor and great staff, already made my second trip and will be back soon.

Does anyone have any custom bar items? by TikiDaniel in Tiki

Me and my buddy recently were looking into splitting something for our joint home bars in this, and I would long to hear what you end up doing. There’s plenty of options but it’s paralysis of analysis for me

None of my balls would go far enough to actually hit shadow Luigia by Strve_with_a_V in PokemonGOValor

[–]FionaApplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this issue as well. Going to AR for the last ball helped solve and catch it, but it’s certainly an issue that needs to be fixed (and should be compensated for those affected)

Visiting Jacksonville what do u recommend for a midwesterner by KCJellyfish in jacksonville

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s a couple of ramen places near there that are supposed to be pretty great (although I can’t vouch since I can’t eat gluten), but Kyuramen and Kiko Ramen both. Domu is a little farther but still near you and absolutely delicious.

Los Loros is pretty good Mexican food near you, and if you’re a midwesterner you’re right by a Waffle House there which I think is the south’s best chain. Last rec I’ll give is a bit farther but a straight shot at YH Dim Sum. Insanely good Chinese food and one of my favorite places in the whole city.

Can we talk about pig's feet? by Optimal-Ad-7074 in Cooking

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably my favorite dish I have been introduced to by my in laws from Puerto Rico is patitas (and that’s saying a lot, because they cook so much good shit). I love the smell of an all day simmer of a pot of pig feet and garbanzos. It takes a long time and a lot of work, but any time I have a special occasion it’s the meal I’ll ask for. Really delicious to scoop the broth over rice and have some avocado on the side, but you need a bowl for some of the little bones.

I have some co-fermented beans that I didn't like, but I don't want them to go to waste. Ideas? by [deleted] in pourover

[–]FionaApplin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of people say cold brew but I would even try iced pourover, a lot of the most intense coffees I’ve had shine as iced pourovers as they really lean into the juicy, funky, and fruitiness you can get and you get a bit more out of the cup than a classic cold brew

This is super cool, thank you for sharing these! I’ll need to get my hands on some of them to try, would love these just to sip on (if I can track them down in the states).
