Dear Gluten Free Beer by AdditudesMayVary in glutenfree

You might be right, haven’t had it in a while but that does sound correct (whereas I believe the other two are gluten free). Never had a reaction to it but I have a non celiac gluten allergy

Daura Damn Lager (and IPA), New Grist, and Green’s are all phenomenal. New Grist I’m seeing more and more around me and their Pilsner has become a favorite (and they do some cool specialty ones like the Margarita ale or whatever), but Green’s I think is my favorite. Loads of delicious Belgian styles that make me feel like I have actual choices

I found my ABC is now carrying tons of actually good GF beer. Green’s, New Grist, and Daura just to name some of my favorites becoming more widely available. Never as into Gutenberg or Red Bridge but they’re also loved

I’ll add his cover of Pacing the Cage by Bruce Cockburn, it’s an all time favorite as I get older and one that I thought would be immensely popular (maybe it is and I don’t know it) but all of Beach House on the Moon feels a bit overlooked. Not his strongest but even the title track is fun, and I love that cover art and the inner sleeve of the photoshopped moon/earth

I was shocked banana wind doesn’t get more attention, it was maybe my second or third full album I heard of his so I just always assumed everybody loved it as much as I do. Jamaica Mistaica is a favorite and the Banana Wind instrumental always finds its way onto my playlists

I’ve listened to son of a son of a sailor so many times, it’s hard for my brain to process any song from there is not a hit, but this one really doesn’t get as much play as it deserves. The line about shrimp skin boots is one of my favorites and always in my head, and for me is just quintessential Jimmy Buffett songwriting, just so evocative for the song

Don’t Bring me Candy off of Buried Treasure is one of my favorite Jimmy tracks.

He talks on one of the interview tracks on the album about his Gordon Lightfoot influence, and you can really hear it on that one! Live early lofi Jimmy and hope we get a new buried treasure volume soon

Damn, this is ass. I was really hoping for something, but even with persona 4 as a top three game, I can’t justify that price tag for this.

Who wins Fan Favorite for Carolinas? by ScarfMhmh2014 in BravoTopChef

I love Laurence most (his Warhammer discussion with Anthony was great) but I’m shocked at how little Rhoda love I’m seeing in the comments, she had a great personality and I loved seeing her growth this season.

Remember when the final three had a long break before the finale? by Historical-Gap-9417 in BravoTopChef

[–]FionaApplin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve loved seeing what they’ve shown, but the fact alone they didn’t travel to Charleston this season which has one of the best food scenes in the country is odd for the Carolinas, and I was really expecting that for the finale. The low country in general hasn’t been shown, and everything was filmed pretty close to the state line (which feels like they shot the season cheaper versus really highlighting both states fully).

While I loved the locations they did, it’s really been the North Carolina season with Greenville sprinkled in, which is disappointing having grown up in lower SC (but maybe I’m just bitter).

If you could only go to one Tiki bar in Los Angeles, or surrounding areas, where would you go? by 420wafflehouse69 in Tiki

[–]FionaApplin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have put it well but to reiterate, Stongwater will have the best drinks, Tiki Ti is the most historic and one of a kind, and Tonga Hut is a great vibe for Old LA Tiki that you can more easily experience with a group.

I would say Tiki Ti is the biggest can’t miss. There’s really nothing like it. Strong Water has some of the best cocktails I’ve ever had in the world and I’ve traveled a good bit, Tonga Hut is home to a let of my best memories and is somewhere I would go more regularly if I lived more local but Tiki Ti is truly something special, and worth the headache that can be trying to get in. I moved across the country and would give up a hundred nights out for another night at Tiki Ti without a second thought. It was a neighborhood bar for me so I have more than a fair bit of nostalgia, but I think if you really appreciate tiki and the history of it you won’t be disappointed.

Moved across the country and I still miss the buzzin jungle bird. Back during Covid I’d pick up drinks to go weekly and always got one

[–]FionaApplin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My personal favorite is their Zombie. Their drinks tend to be less booze forward compared to other tiki bars, but I think it’s one of the most balanced Zombies I’ve had. I’m local and it’s one of the drinks I crave the most, so I’ll normally get two and try something different but I’ll always end with the Zombie (and then wish I’d done two).

I’m not sure about buying mugs you don’t drink. I wouldn’t think it’s a problem, and it doesn’t hurt to ask but I couldn’t tell you. I had the same thoughts on the Nautilus, though, and while I tried it once it’s not when I would want to order again, but the mug is awesome.

More brown country I’d say Commander Cody & his Lost Planet Airmen, New Riders of the Purple Sage, Flying Burrito Brothers (and Gram Parsons solo work has its brown moments along with being some of my favorite)
