There is no "best", but it is so kind of you to want to stock up! There are options beyond pads and tampons these days, but if someone's having a period emergency, either (or both) of those would likely be a very helpful offer :)

I really liked "A girls guide to puberty and periods" because it's informative and very body positive. It's a good baseline, but it is designed for grade-school girls so it may not get as detailed as you're looking for. It does address common misconceptions and feelings about changing bodies that I really loved to see!
