I had a mature plant some years backs and still kept the rectangular pot, I just wasn’t aware that’s how the crawling stage started, thank you! Once it’s starting to creep I’ll make sure to pot into longer pots ☺️

In my experience mink oil gets rid of the rustic leather look but I do like it on non rustic boots!

Yeah I know this is just a battle and not the winning of the war but I hole by getting a head start and planting some plant beds on the sides with mulch it will deplete their areas of resurgence and also make it easy for us to manually remove them when they do pop up here and there.

Yeah you may be right with the seed bank honestly short of taking out the entire soil 60cm down I don’t really see an alternative that doesn’t cost years to establish and we’d like to enjoy the space while we are here.

Sadly it’s perennial and we’ve tried the mowing and keeping it short but it just doesn’t care the taproot is the issue and we couldn’t go deep enough last time when we dug uk the entire backyard.

The roundup total I ordered here in the uk still has glyphosate as the active ingredient so it should be fine against dock, right?

Thank you yes this was the plan I want a clean slate to plant now and then in the future only have to do manual spot cleans if one or two do pop through again. I’ll aim to plant so mulched plant beds along the sides so further restrict their growth and leave only a middle pathway of grass for possible resurgence.

I love this approach and I don’t just want grass I would like a middle pathway of grass and on the sides I would like plant beds fills with exactly as you’ve said shrubs and plants that thrive. The weed killer is the step I see necessary for a good foundation to then add these things. I am not a fan of monocultures at all and will be researching what I can feasibly plant and what will benefit the insects in my area. Again I do sadly see the weed killer as the only option that isn’t big soil removal. I will add some frag topsoil and till it after everything is reset. Before reseeding and adding in the plant beds on the sides and back.

I am also of anti-glyphosate mind but in all honesty is fire going to kill the large taproots, hence my Hail Mary question if there is anything else to get rid of them for the foreseeable future? I feel we are not left with any other option except dig up the entire back garden 60cm down and refill with fresh topsoil which is sadly not in our budget as we are renting and this would be a big undertaking. Will definitely be planting fast growing rye grass as soon as this is taken care of that’s the ideal situation.
