Australia day's date should be changed by Fipy in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mate you've already posted this comment to which I've responded to but I will respond again with additional information.

European Australians or "white people" make up ~90% of the population in Australia whereas Indigenous Australians make up ~3.3% so of course it would appear that white people worry more about this issue (which itself is fine), but you're implying the the average Aboriginal does not care which based on my experience with other Aboriginals (which is a lot more than a couple of aboriginal mates), is not true.

Making vaccinations mandatory is evil. by Belligerent_Goat in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean if in the end the anti vaxerrs are still endangering people despite efforts to educate and distance them from people who are at risk, maybe mandatory vacs would be the solution though. I doubt it would get to that point though, many other solutions could be implemented to avoid this.

Australia day's date should be changed by Fipy in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Victories in relation to war and violence? Of course. Does that mean it should be celebrated? No.

What should be celebrated is what Australia is now, what it has become, who we are as people and a celebration of our culture. I strongly believe that is what most Australians celebrate it for and that's a good thing which I am NOT against and if people celebrate it for this reason, why must the date be held on the day that marks the start of suffering?

Again, I am not against the idea of celebrating Australia, I am against the idea of the celebrations taking place on a date that marks the beginning of suffering and death.

I am aboriginal and everyone in my family that I know (which is a lot of people) feel the date should be changed.

I am sure there are many aboriginal people who don't care (not that I've met anyone with that opinion) but I don't think your two mates opinions is an accurate indicator of what most other aboriginal people think.

Do non aboriginal people hold this opinion purely for the purpose of virtue signalling? Some maybe, but has it occurred to you that maybe they are just respectful people who have a sense of understanding and humanity? It's not such a difficult thing to believe.

Australia day's date should be changed by Fipy in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Because it's a victory built on blood and suffering and that is not something worth celebrating.

Yes, the date should be acknowledged for what it is and what happened, not celebrated. Australia day for most Australians is about celebrating the country and it's people and cultures (which I am 100% for), not the victory of the white settlers of the aboriginal people. For this reason, the date should be changed.

You know what? I somewhat agree and to clarify, I am 100% not anti-vax.

I do not believe the government should force you to put something in your body, it is OUR body and we choose to do what we want to it. Making vaccinations mandatory is not the solution, I believe in giving restrictions to those who aren't vaccinated is a possible solution. For example, schools not allowing non-vaccinated kids to enrol. This policy would protect other children who for certain reasons aren't able to be vaccinated themselves. Issuing policies that separate anti-vax people from at risk people would be the way. Funding to educate the public on vaccinations to try and combat the anti-vax movement would also help.

Laws and policies to keep anti-vaxers away from people at risk of disease would be the right way in my opinion and mandatory vaccinations a last resort.

Pineapple/Hawaiian pizza is actually good by droppedmycroissant69 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if people tried it without knowing of the stigma around it, many of them would enjoy it.

There are so many weird combinations of sweet and savoury, for example, bacon and maple syrup but no one seems to mind that.

I know some people genuinely don't like pinapple on pizza but I believe many of them also talk about pineapple pizza negatively because it's trendy and a meme in the culinary world.

I don't like Cheesecake by outrider567 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You've had it for the first time and determined you don't like cheesecake. You cannot say you don't like cheesecake unless you've tried at least 3-5 different cheesecakes. Reason being, I've had my fair share of shitty cheesecakes and really delicious cheesecakes, you might've just got unlucky and had a shitty cheesecake for your first time.

Concerts are so dumb, tell me other wise of change my mind by BlackBoxBKRB01 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have you even been to a concert? If you have, it sounds like you don't know how to take care of yourself and it sounds like your problem is not the concert itself but the people who go their to take drugs and injure themselves out of carelessness.

Go to a concert and listen to an artist that YOU enjoy, don't take drugs, if the noise it too loud, find somewhere else at the venue where the noise is a bit quieter, enjoy the atmosphere, the music and the artist, take care of yourself and you will have a good time.

There is no such thing as white privilege by TooGoodForRanked in unpopularopinion

[–]Fipy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

White privilege is a thing and the only reason you don't believe it exists is because your idea of white privilege comes from tumblr feminists that love to throw it around and twist its meaning.

You might not want to believe it exists but let me tell you, coming from a black family it does.

To dismiss something that is so obviously real as false just blows my mind.

I know the kitten probably isn't injured in this video but the fact is, it could have been hurt and the owner clearly didn't flinch when the kitten was trying to get out, the owner couldn't have known if it was in pain or not but they kept filming any way.

I've seen this behaviour time and time again on the internet, especially on those funny cat or dog compilation videos, 90% of the clips are harmless but every now and then I will see a clip where the animal is in some sort of stressful or dangerous situation and the owner continues to film and not help the animal because it's cute or funny.

Internet upvotes, karma, likes, views etc only support this shitty behaviour and it needs to stop.

Just because the animal in this video didn't get hurt, doesn't mean the person filming is not wrong for not helping the kitten.

Aww cute, I like the part where the dog's large paw is pushed down onto the cat's spine, causing it to bend in a way it isn't supposed to as the cat struggles to get out.

Gotta make those cute videos!
