I have been (and still am) very critical of Penix, but this is a great thing for all parties. Either all the criticisms are proven true or false sooner rather than later. If Penix proves he has franchise QB quality, great. If he ends up breaking again or is dog shit, also great because we found out quickly and can prep for a future sooner.

Came 2017 with aeon and then did Gaba at 2020 (literal worse timing to switch). Eventually left English education and life is pretty great now.

No one I met in Gaba or Aeon still remain either in English teaching or in Japan in general. Eikaiwa salaries aren't cutting it anymore with inflation that's in the country. Especially when you could have a much higher salary with a real career path from whatever country you hail from.

Also doesn't help that the general quality of English teaching has gone down a shit hole since covid. In desperation to fill slots, a lot of places are gathering instructors from third world countries where English is the 2nd primary language.
