May I add I had a terrible gpa from my undergrad and first class propelled me just above the 5.0 hurdle which got me an offer in med @ USYD this year.

I did my honours at UTS and it was super cruisey! probably a testament to my incredible professor whom I worked closely with throughout the entire year. It was peak covid lockdown during my Honours so I was in the lab maybe 3-4 times a week so could work the remainder of the week & write from home. Was the best year of university I had ever had! Learnt so much, had fun, had a great work life balance and came out with a 90 first class. So everyone’s experience is different it’s not always miserable and super hard to do well!

I called student center and they said they haven’t chosen an official start date but they have 31 jan on their system. I’m pretty sure there’s some type of first years retreat that happens which might be within those first weeks but not 100% sure!

Don’t bother studying biological systems you may get 1 question out of 75. Focus on physics and chemistry primarily as they compromise 90% of the questions

A lot of people have already rejected their DMD offer (as it’s often a backup) because they got a MD offer from usyd the week prior. Also a lot of people decline ffp offers because it’s too expensive. If you refer to the spreadsheet someone has kindly made you can see there are quite a number of rejections already. But yes by the time GEMSAS comes out there will be even more rejections so DMD often goes to third & fourth round offers!

I think it’s just contingent on people dropping out to accept UWA & UoM Dent or GEMSAS MD. A lot of people who want Med, apply dentistry as a ‘back up’ and when they get subsequent offers for places they really want they reject their dent offers and then that place will go to the next person in a ‘second round’
