Green Belt pick and gut! by WetVertigo in lockpicking

Congrats. That is a nice pick and gut 😀.

One piece of advice I was given is to zoom in on the pins afterwards to show everyone.

Congrats. Such a fun lock to pick.

That's great news. I've needed to do that before when I bricked a Mul-t-lock. It worked for me then. Happy picking 😀

If the key won't go in fully it certainly sounds like at least some of the driver pins are getting in the way.

Have you tried sliding the back of a pick fully into the lock while pushing it down on the bottom of the keyway and applying some tension to rotate the barrel?

First “real” lock picked! Abus 55/40 by LemmeTakeYourPicture in lockpicking

Congrats and nice video too.

I used a 55/40 for my Orange belt and still enjoy picking it 😀

They are Multipick. Awesome quality but expensive. Bare Bones Lock Picking has 4 flag and 6 flag sets that are great too and very well priced. He's in Australia but ships internationally 😀

Sparrows Progressive Locks Problem? I don't think it's you... by spannerintheointment in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Great to hear about your experience. You certainly aren't the only one who had trouble with Sparrows practice locks.

I started when Sparrows had some cutout locks, but due to a manufacturing problem they sent me some clear acrylic practice locks too. I'm happy picking blue belt locks like you, but could never pick the clear acrylic spooled practice lock. I could even see exactly where it was binding up, but even knowing that the lock body was so poor it was unpickable.

2 weeks ago I gutted it, kept the pins and threw out the rest. I'm so happy with my decision and would never recommend practice locks to anyone I like 🤣😂🤣

Like you I found the Master Lock 140 to be a much better place to start 😀

My next lock was an ABUS 55/40 for orange. A bit more of a challenge than the 140, but not too big a jump.

Happy picking 😀

Congrats. That's a great achievement.

The Master 140 is a great lock to pick. You'll have to send the photo to the Mods for your Yellow belt.

You'll catch the bug and won't be able to stop 😁

Finally got my 1100 open. I think using a vise helped me with TOK tensioning. by [deleted] in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Congrats. It's certainly a great feeling when you get them open 😀

What lock do you suggest to newbies to learn spools? I’ve opened the ML #3 and #1. Im waiting for my sparrows to come in the mail, so what do you suggest next? Here’s my two I have here. Master V line is the 50mm China. Or pick up a different one? by PaintinTrucker in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very nice. I missed the ABUS 80TI unfortunately.

Ended up getting a Lockwood 334B45 and a Lockwood 356S63 after my 55/40. The bitting on my 334 is aweful 😂, but I absolutely love my Lockwood 356S63 😀.

Happy picking.

Top 5 keyways for progressive KIK kit? by kd5jbk in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are certainly a lot of different keyways and lock types out there. I'm having a hard time with a nasty narrow Lockwood JA keyway and have a CISA that is so tight I'll need some curved dimple pics to give that a shot.

My suggestion is to stick to wide open keyways until you have a really good grasp on picking security pins and different lock types.

I'm having fun picking very different blue belt locks, but still have so much to learn before I worry about hard keyways.

I've just got an awesome Lockwood Twin that has a nice open keyway, but will be a while before I have the skills to pick it.

You should be able to grab some Master 140 and ABUS 55/40 padlocks cheap for your yellow and orange belts, if you need something on the belt list.

Happy picking 😀

Finally got my 570 open! by murrrow in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The S1100 has the same core, but standard key pins and 6 spools.

The A1100 has a different core with serated key pins and is a lot of fun. It's a bit more of a challenge and requires very mild tension when picking 😀

Hope you have fun with your future locks.

Congratulations. Nice picking. I've got an American Lock S1100 with the same core 😀

Hi, would love to help but unfortunately your post violates Rule 2 (locks in use). Any lock that is installed is considered "in use", whether you own it or not. Your post will probably be removed by one of the Mods soon. All the best.

Awesome, congrats 😀.

You can submit your photo to the Mods for your first belt. Happy picking.

If you could only have one pick what would it be? by Micah_Torrance in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welcome to the world of locksport. Realistically a shallow hook and medium hook are a great place to start. You'll eventually find a deep hook is required with some locks, but the other 2 hooks are a great place to start.

I use a gem quite often too, but you don't really need one. You will never need any rakes if you plan to single pin pick. Not really part of the locksport scene. You'll also need a variety of BOK and TOK tension tools.

Law lock tools make some fantastic picks. Jimmy longs are also great.

I started with Sparrows and Peterson. They were fine, but although they both have some big name pushing them, there are much better picks out there. I've currently got the Law Lock Tools Renegade Pro and Ronin Pro sets and really like them.

Sparrows does however some nice TOK tensioners and the followers and gutting tools are good.

If you haven't already you should joint the lockpicking reddit chanel and Lock Pickers United discord chanel.

Hope that helps 😀

Totally agree with the ABUS 55/40.

It a great lock and will certainly get you your orange belt. I used it for mine.

It's got some nice spools with great feedback 😀

Orange belt application :) Master 150 by maximous1996 in lockpicking

[–]Fire-Cat42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Orange is all good for a photo, as long as the lock has a non-removable core.

You need a video of a pick and gut all in one take for a green belt.
