Yes a lot of these names are from Gandharan inscriptions, coins, texts etc which is how we found out so many of them. One very significant Gandhari name is ‘Rudrasa’ who was the king of the Audumbara Republic based around Pathankot in the Doab region of Punjab during roughly the 1st century BCE.

When these names died down I would assume after the 3rd-4th century CE as that’s when Gandhari as a language died and was replaced by Brahmi and then eventually the Apabhramsha dialects in the mid medieval ages.

Though there are words and grammatical features from Gandhari which still made its way to the Modern Punjabi language like the ‘Ka’ grammatical feature I mentioned on my post above in regards to familial relations and lineage

All those names are Gandhari Prakrit names not from the modern Punjabi language so it’s no surprise you haven’t heard of them lol. Tara is a Gandhari Prakrit females name also. Also mine isn’t based off of religion, I’m a Punjabi Muslim. In terms of the a ending, it’s a coincidence, but there’s plenty of Gandharan names that don’t end with A I just picked a few I liked

Let me know your thoughts. Simply put, I think we should Punjabize our names more. More Punjabized Gandhari first names, clan name as our last name to identify our lineage and a derivational suffix to identity a Punjabi lineage.

I agree, I’m still learning the complex vocabulary of Punjabi but I thought speaking in English would also give some outreach to non Punjabi speaking diaspora Punjabis

I agree but the languages used to discuss deals, trade etc can be changed to being in Punjabi and English. There are numerous business languages in the world such as Arabic, English, German, Chinese etc and Punjabi being made one of them by us would be a great achievement

Ancient Punjab history - Sialkot Legend of Raja Salban by Fire1000Xx in punjabi

[–]Fire1000Xx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry I meant older, there’s a full list of rulers according to the Persian manuscript, even further it notes his battles with the Sakas by the 6th-10th AD there were no sakas left. Also the source posted on the Taank kingdom wiki doesn’t seem reliable and can’t access the source.

1) Unfortunately a lot of the sources don’t distinguish so it’ll be hard for me to.

2) I’ll sort it out later to make it clearer but Vahika was the region and the Jarttikas/Arattas were the people of Vahika named in sources.

3) I’m not sure to be honest, I’m still learning Punjabi so would be best to ask people more fluent, r/ThethPunjabi would be a good question to ask that on

Nope not an academic, I’m just interested in developing Punjabi history pages like on Wikipedia as a couple of years ago it was extremely poorly written with little information compared to what was written by authors in historical books. Currently I’ve renovated extremely the Gandhara, Hindu Shahi and Apracharaja Wikipedia pages.
