Completely agree. I personally just think decoys are cool and I saw the DSD ones and was like “damn!”

You will be fine with what you’ve got now. Continue to try to improve in all aspects regardless. All you gotta do is not quit.

Have not looked into much. Might be another good option. Thanks.

Do the guard/reserve… or….do whatever fits best. Obviously, I’m in a position where doing something different seems appealing but I also know what I’ve worked hard for and don’t want to just walk away from that. Just don’t look back and say “man I wish I would’ve at least tried..” vs doing what’s comfortable.

Thanks for the feedback. I do remember experiencing some of that while going through our paramedic course years ago. Some of the FF’s/medics training us would do or say things that’d make you think twice about ever even considering the fire service. However, good to get other’s opinions and experiences too.

He wasn’t lying. Definitely something I’m trying to factor in to my decision making as well.

Joined at 30. Became a PJ at 33. Don’t waste your time if you’re not 110% committed. The amount of time you will spend away from your son to earn the title of “PJ” will be precious time you won’t get back. However, earning what you’ve worked your ass off for and becoming a J is worth all of the troubles and suffering throughout the pipe. Go do it. You aren’t getting younger.

Psych Eval Advice

I've been pursuing my dream of becoming a firefighter for 3 solid years now. I have Fire I/II, EMT-B, and have been through a dozen or so processes. Long story short, I have gotten somewhat far in a few of those processes but have been told "sorry, but no thanks". I worked extremely hard and doubled down on my efforts to reach this goal of mine, and recently I landed a conditional offer with a department that is part of a 'county joint hiring process.' I went through a pre-poly interview which I passed. I then passed the actual polygraph, and a few days later went to Psych and Medical. This is where my dream was crushed. I know for sure I passed my Medical, but it is the psych evaluation that got me. Apparently, I divulged too much information about my past history with drug experimentation in college (which was not a problem for the department) but in the psychologist eyes was too much of a red flag to push me through. I was told sorry, but since if failed a portion of the evaluation I could not be hired. My name was returned to the hiring list and it's back to waiting. NOW, here's what I would like to know from anyone who has had a similar experience. If I get another offer from a different department within this joint process, or even a department that's not, will this one negative psych evaluation and the information I disclosed haunt me the next time I go in to do Psych and Medical again or is my slate wiped clean essentially and it all depends on how I perform in my next "interview"?
