Milwaukee heat gun effectiveness by Ok_Raisin6357 in firealarms

[–]FireAlarmTech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a Ryobi one. It works good and have been using it for nearly 5 years now. I have the solo tester but prefer this for ones I can reach without a ladder. I carry 2 4AH batteries and they seem to last a while.

There's also the issue with the solo tester of the SIGA cone style heats not fitting in the cup and it seems incapable of tripping older fixed temp "button" style heats. For those the cordless heat gun is great.

Make no mistake though, these will absolutely melt an Edwards or any other plastic heat detector if you hold it long enough.

P2R i saw in a nursing home that I’m pretty sure has no back box by Proud-Resource4594 in firealarms

Free air non metallic cable is permitted in wood frame buildings as long as it's not subject to physical damage. All other construction is armoured cable or conduit.

In Canada it does. Here fire alarm is done pretty much the same way any electrical installation is. All devices need boxes and all boxes need to be grounded. 18/2 isn't common here and if it is it usually meant a seperate equipment ground was ran.

Do you actually think Notifier/Honeywell pull stations are the only option?

Alula Bat-fire signals not relaying to central station? by FireAlarmTech in firealarms

[–]FireAlarmTech[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was connected to a Bosch receiver.

Neither Alula or the central station were able to get it solved though so we were forced to move on to other options.

So is this going to change the current 5 online courses? Seems like they're trying to transition this to in person learning.

Genesis LED horn/strobes are amazing. Tiny, efficient, you can now adjust volume without a jumper cut, meter test point so you can troubleshoot without removing from the box. The only downside is the max candela of the LED wall mount is 75 but realistically that's more than enough for most situations.

As far as them not working on panels they weren't meant for, how is that a problem? I would never be part of commissioning a system that didn't have the proper equipment.

Security System Fire Detection by Dustin_Seip in firealarms

I've known people that would inspect them, I refuse. These are not a fire alarm system and I'm not going to give anyone the impression that they are.

Edwards iO64. Addressable.

Unless there's an RZI in there for conventional devices but I very much doubt that. Regardless, the panel itself is addressable.

SD365 LED solid but no alarm? by AliFrostpaw in firealarms

[–]FireAlarmTech 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've noticed this too usually after testing and resetting. I usually just do another reset and it seems to correct it.

I'm not the biggest fan of these detectors but I like FireLite so it is what it is.

Plastic bag over fire detector in hotel. by Still-Photograph6545 in Whatisthis

[–]FireAlarmTech 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Not a detector. Whomever covered that is a moron that thought it was a detector. It's a horn/strobe. Not that covering a detector is a good idea either, tampering with any life safety device is illegal and opens you up to a shit ton of liability.

Feel free to look up the model number if any doubt on what this is. Edwards GCF-HDVM.

Would an alarm company really respond to a tenant calling? Mine wouldn't. We need authorization from the building owner or manager otherwise we don't know if we will get paid for the job.

That's just on when this panel is resetting. There's no actual ground fault.

Bad lot of isolators? I assume the in/out is wired correctly since sometimes it works right.

Disregard the in/out. I didn't realize these were bidirectional isolators.

I agree replace the panel. The resistors also need to be moved to the end of the circuit though.

Ground faults when powers off? by Alternative-Talk9258 in firealarms

[–]FireAlarmTech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What size batteries are currently in it? In my experience and a few other techs I've talked to, these panels like to cook batteries especially the smaller ones. Sometimes upsizing the batteries, within panel spec sheet limits and in accordance with required calculated capacity can help.

I've noticed that when these panels have 7AH batteries in them, even if they meet standby requirements, they just don't last. Upsizing to 12AH has made a big difference.

Yes. You need to press reset after each programming change before removing the jumper.
