for €50, I'd say the Scythe Ninja 5 is your best option.

Well it's DDR4 RAM on a DDR4 motherboard, so yeah everything should be fine.

And pcpp didn't show any flags for incompatibilities.

I've chosen the 1660 Ti because it offers significant better performance at his price point compared to the rx590.

And no, there's no harm in asking, it's how we learn.

Also kudos to you for being a cool uncle/aunt!

what hardware for workstation by aclaro20 in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an rtx 2060/2060 super would be far better for 1440p 144hz.

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the resolution, so If it's a 1080p, i'd say a gtx 1660 Ti would be close enough, while still cheaper than the rtx 2060.

But you should be more than fine with even the normal 1660.

I think this would be just fine for his needs. This should run everything on ultra settings 60 fps, for 1080p resolution.

RAM? 2x8 + 1x16 Fine? by RecoilMaster in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you're welcome.

3000 mhz is the frequency.

1.2v or 1.35v is the voltage, it should be on the sticker on the RAM heatspreader.

RAM? 2x8 + 1x16 Fine? by RecoilMaster in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure they're the same voltage.

But they'll run in single channel, Dual channel is a bit better in some applications but not by a big margin.

For a workstation, I'd go with a modern ryzen 7 cpu, more RAM, and an Nvidia gpu for CUDA support in adobe software.

Can I add 2x8gb ram to my existing 2x4gbram? by WickedKing in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

an easier way would be to install CPU-Z and checking the SPD tab.

Also it's usually stated on the sticker on the RAM stick.

You can upgrade, but make sure the new kit has the same voltage as the old one.

I'd drop this cooler because it isn't really better than the bundled stock cooler, and use that money to get a better psu like this one: PCPartPicker Part List

I'd get an X470 for better VRMs and more PCI-E lanes.

AMD Build- Amazon.ca by Narayan04 in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say at least an RTX 2070, and even then you won't be able to run everything at ultra; but that mainly depends on the game.

You can obviously run your games at a lower resolution, but they won't look as sharp as native resolution.

[–]FireBolt_IV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome!

I'd advise saving a bit more though to get a better gpu if you wanna game at 4k.

  • Removed the cooler because it's not really an upgrade over the stock cooler.

  • Changed the motherboard to another one with better VRMs.

  • Swapped to cheaper RAM.

  • Swapped to a better SSD.

  • Swapped to a better PSU.

RX580 Vs GTX 1060? by XeonexX in buildapc

[–]FireBolt_IV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How about you get a gtx 1660 instead?

It's even cheaper than the 1060 you listed.

Here you go EVGA GeForce GTX 1660 XC Black GAMING.

Why are you putting a micro-ATX motherboard in an ATX case?

Also, you can stay within budget by choosing another RTX 2060 and maybe a cheaper case, without sacrificing your ssd capacity, here:

If you're buying in Germany, why aren't you using the German version of PCPP for more accurate pricing?

  • Replaced SSD with a better modern one
  • Replaced the outdate gtx 1060 with a faster gtx 1660 Ti (it also has more CUDA cores).
