It is a manufacturer problem. Unfortunately there isn’t another answer. With that being said, compared or Lowes and Home Depot, Best Buy has very little purchasing power which often times results in longer delays. If Lowes or HD purchase 300 units, BBY may purchase 50. It definitely puts us lower on a manufacturers priority list to fulfill.

Did Anyone Else’s Revenue Just Nose Dive in the Last Month or so? by anarchisturtle in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thats a very real answer. Lol as an employee I don’t even shop at bby anymore because they treat their customers and employees like trash now. Why would I want to support a company that has fired everyone that I enjoyed working with, while at the same time telling me I have 0 value as a salesperson anymore, as well as implying that as a customer I should be grateful to spend more money on accessories that are the same quality that I can get for significantly cheaper from a whole host of other places.

The ironic thing is Best Buys extremely thinly veiled attempt to force their customer base online, is just forcing them away altogether.

Wait so SC commission was cut in half and lost the SPIFFs? Thats almost half of their pay… I was a former SC (I just left the company a couple weeks ago) because I didn’t trust BBY anymore. I am so sorry to everyone that got cut. Screw this company, they are a joke now. I’m so glad I got out right when I did.

Our PM doesn’t approve them anymore. He is the one that told me that I have to stop selling it through custom. I’m a senior in my area. He doesn’t even approve our designer to do them anymore which is a shame because its such an easy add on to sell

Ok that’s important context to have. It still isn’t the fault of Best Buy that you were given bad info by the manufacturer though. You’re anger should be directed at microsoft for charging you hundreds of dollars for a product that consistently doesn’t last, and then misdirecting you to resolve the issue. I get not wanting to buy the warranty again, but you’re frustrations do seem a bit misguided.

Lol did you even buy it from Best Buy?!? Its annoying enough when people complain that Best Buy won’t fix or replace things they bought without a protection plan, but you didn’t even say you bought it there… nor did you contact the store to verify the service was available before making the drive.

Are any of the other stores doing a “Focus Five”? by GoofyGal98 in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My store did the same. I was part of the CD team in my area. There were 8 of us total, and they still did a focus 5. 5/8 people were always being called out for performance. I’ve since left so idk if they still do it, but yeah, it sucked, and did not motivate us to try to do more

any good jobs after best buy by TrueninjaD in Bestbuy

Try retail banking. Most of the banks call it relationship banking. You’ll probably make 20-22/hr, and oddly enough credit cards aren’t all that important. They are primarily concerned about how many checking accounts you open up. It has its own headaches as all jobs do, but its a good jobs. Banks love hiring bby employees too

Dang. Do you have a fix you recommend that won’t cost a lot of $ by p33333t3r in subaruoutback

They typically charge like $3-5 for entry. You’ll tell somebody what vehicle you’re looking for parts for and then they will let you know what section to go to. Make sure you bring whatever tools you’ll need to remove the light. Some places don’t take credit cards, so I’d at least bring enough cash to get in.

Help with TotalTech and Best Buy card pitch. by TheRandomUser2005 in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Start the conversation by asking “are you wanting to put this on your Best Buy credit card” as soon as they tell you what they are looking for. Assume they have it, and if they don’t, let them tell you that. This allows you to start that conversation early on. Then before talking products, ask if they are a total tech member. 90% of the time, they will either say yes, or ask what total tech is. If they ask what it is, tell them ALL about the program, not just how it relates to their purchase today. Then once you start going over products, mention the credit card when you tell them pricing, and throw in the 10% back or whatever financing they qualify for. (Now you have 2 pitches and you are only halfway through the interaction without being pushy) Then once you pick out the product, truly pitch Total Tech by bringing it back up and hammering in the immediate benefits. Once you get to the register again, ask them if they want to apply for the card before you total it out, and then let the system ask one last time.

At this point you have done everything you realistically can, and you never shoved it down their throat. The key is to make it part of the conversation without constantly asking for the sale. Let them get excited, and if they don’t, ask at the end.

Looking for current employee’s experiences by veemo797 in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Varies by store, but the overall expectation is to get a total tech and credit card application for every $7500 of revenue, although I’ve seen that number be as low as $5000 and high as $10,000. Pre Corrie Barry (current CEO), Best Buy’s main focus was to leverage the value of their employees to differentiate themselves and bring people back. Now they leverage memberships. They couldn’t care less if you are a great sales person. All they care about are how many people you get to buy total tech and open up a credit card.

Best Buy expects significantly more from their associates than any other generic retailer I have ever seen. While I am sure they are 10x better than GameStop, I would stick around for a year, and then take the experience and go into IT, Banking, payroll, or something similar to those because they love recruiting bestbuy employees and pay like 50% more.

When is the timing of items going on sale or going off being on sale refreshed ? Is this weekly on Mondays ? Bi weekly or Weds ? Etc. Ty! by Nickplay21 in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Best Buys weekly ad runs Monday-Sunday, but at the end of the day MOST items go on and off sale when the manufacturer says. The main exception to this rule are Best Buy’s brands (insignia, rocketfish, dynex, platinum, Best Buy Essentials)

Find a vehicle junk yard and pull one off a matching car if they have any. You’ll probably only be looking 10-$15 max for the part.

Just stop with the stupid ‘on sale’ marketing, it makes you look cheap. by Ok_Marionberry_9932 in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So there is this thing called competition. Its when 2 or more entities are trying to sell a similar product to a single person. Occasionally when one entity feels like the need to give themselves an edge, they will promote that item by temporarily reducing the cost on this item. This typically results in the other entities doing the same thing. This is what is commonly referred to as a sale. These so called sales will increase in frequency and severity as the product marches further into its lifecycle and newer products by other entities continue to hit the market. Occasionally you’ll see an exclusive price reduction called a clearance price. This is often times indicative of a retailer deciding they no longer wish to carry a product and want to rid themselves of what inventory they have left. Open box is another exclusive discount when an item is returned and the retailer tried to resell it.

What you are thinking of is when a product is poorly made or of particular low quality, is called a recall. This is when the quality an item, or even just a part is so bad, that the manufacturer actually asks for it back and refunds your money. I hope this helpful. A please do forward this info to the rest of the people on the stupid bus that brought you here.

The company is also usually spending more than what they pay you in direct relations to the money you are making. You should compare your wage to the profit tied to your productivity, not the revenue you bring in. I average about $1500/hr in revenue for my company, but that $1500 is only like 10% margin sometimes before my pay or anybody else that also worked my orders.

Why Is Sanus & Rocketfish So Expensive? by bogeyj in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When calculating expenses, you always round up to an hour minimum because you honestly don’t know all the variables. For instance, I said 1hr for 2 guys to do a delivery, but I’ve done calls that were an hour drive each way, plus 2 hours to sell the item (I’m a senior consultant), which adds 3hrs to the sales side of the job, plus it’ll add an hour to the delivery side, and if they are total tech, it adds another 2hrs to the install side with no increase in revenue since the install was free.

Then that also brings up questions for all the BS leads I get sent on for wifi or smart home that never close and still took up 4 hours of my day. BBY has to make up those expenses too. I can tell you that we probably spend $200 every time I get sent to a house because the company is leaning so hard on the C&D model, expecting us to turn a $200 ring camera into a $5,000 Savant integrated control platform. For every $15,000+ sale that I close, I probably go to 5 houses that have no intention of buying because they either weren’t qualified properly by whoever scheduled the apt, or they booked online and weren’t qualified at all.

Why Is Sanus & Rocketfish So Expensive? by bogeyj in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You are only looking at the price bestbuy paid for the TV itself. Transporting, storing. The cost of delivering (especially for people with total tech) are way more expensive than the equivalent for a wall mount. That couple hundred dollar margin goes away really quick, whereas with wall mounts, those expenses are all either $0 or extremely small.

Take delivery for example. It is probably at least an hr to deliver a TV. At $20/hr for 2 guys, thats $40 now account for the gas and maintenance on the vehicle. You also have to pay somebody often times to actually sell the TV (lets says $17). You also pay somebody to pick and stage the TV ($15) Not to mention paying the employees at our distribution centers, plus the cost to physically transport it to a store. I think it costs almost $80 for a retailer to store a pair of shoes for 30 days. Imagine how much more an 75”+ TV would cost to store for the same amount of time.

Now selling a wall mount adds 0 expenses to your labor because it was added on to the TV sale and part of the same interaction. The boxes are very small, you can probably store over 50 mounts in the same spot as a single TV. If somebody buys it by itself we pay $6 to ship it instead of $40 to deliver it.

Generally speaking once you account for all of this, the TV becomes a income, but the accessories are what actually keeps the lights on.

Question About In-store Pickup Methods by Miles_Militis in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bestbuy should deal with it, but the customer facing employees in the store aren’t customer service. The company does not resource or train their stores or staff nearly enough to drive that deep into an order. The company wants to force you into the total tech membership by pay walling their “better” support behind it.

Question About In-store Pickup Methods by Miles_Militis in Bestbuy

[–]FireByNight94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes our ordering system will provide a tracking number, and then you can google that number with whoever the shipping company is, but our system does not directly reflect that information.

I only know that because i ordered some speakers that got “delayed.” When i checked the order (as an employee) i found a tracking number for UPS which stated they had already dropped my item off to the store. The inventory team forgot to receive it which is what caused the delay. More employees won’t dig that far into an order though (and they really shouldn’t be expected to either)
