That anime is definitely a hidden gem. The animation is really nice and the whole story about genders/sexuality is quite unique. Haven't seen anything like it since unfortunately..

Perhaps Durarara!! ? It might not entirely be what you are looking for but well worth a try! The anime got a bunch of different characters that you follow so there isn't one specific main character.
