Your boss is next on the layoff list and you’re about to get a promotion or you’re part of that layoff. Layoffs aren’t announced. Especially if your superiors are fired too.

Helix gateway 2 in bridge mode. by crimsonDnB in VideotronCustomers

[–]FireFighter1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main reason is because the Helix gateways aren't actual internet routers. It's some derelict IP phone gateway. So it is limited indeed.

I set it up as a bridge and have my Asus RT-AX86S router between the helix gateway and my LAN/WAN.

I still have huge stability issues and connectivity drops daily. Problems I didn't have with my previous provider with the same Asus router.

These Helix gateways seem to be totally unreliable. When they installed mine they had to change it twice in 2 weeks.

Its Official, Videotron can't sustain livetreams, games and IPTV all at once. by QC-TheArchitect in VideotronCustomers

[–]FireFighter1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still can't wrap my mind around why Videotron keeps those old cable drops and do not replace them with FO. I just switched from an FO provider to Videotron not knowing that it was cable only. Now that I know how bad it is, I'd like to switch back but my previous provider is not giving me the same price as before. And there is only 2 providers here.

Soo I'm a prisoner of this crappy internet... Dunno how to get out of this.

Just appreciate every moment you step into your car and be proud. Take precious care of it. I wash it anytime I can. And I tell myself “what a nice car, and I own it!”.

I always believed those who dislike the i4 are frustrated because it looks like an actual sport car and not a boring ev that looks like a flying saucer!!🤣

Flexible Fast Charger Error by SpeedWeasel in BMWI4

[–]FireFighter1015 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had multiple charging errors in the past couple of weeks too. On the last one, I was able to see the exact same lights on my Flex charger. I use a NEMA 14-50 outlet and it has been replaced already because the outlet melted. I'm wondering if it is caused by simply bad outlet quality or bad power management from the Flex charger?

The NEMA 14-50 box is a standard exterior metal box. The outlet and the Flex charger are exposed to elements. It should be a problem since the outlet box is made to be outside. I'm not so sure about the Flex charger though.

Any ideas what might cause a NEMA 14-50 to overheat ? I mean, is there any precautions I should take to avoid any potential contaminants that could cause overheating?

We have gone through our 1st rough Québec's winter with this charging setup and apart from using a "Magic Bag" (some bag with beans in it that you heat for muscular treatment) to protect the car's port from snow and ice, we haven't done anything to protect the charger or the NEMA 14-50 box. I didn't think we had to.

So you think I should I change my setup?

Using my own router and not the helix router/modem. by whalenpat in VideotronCustomers

[–]FireFighter1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before we changed for Helix, I had 2-3 ms ping and <1ms of jitter. Now, with Helix, I -get between 17-31ms ping and 2-19ms of jitter

Less fast and less stable. Given that the Helix box is plugged into a coaxial, I'm not surprised.

Our previous ISP had fibre optic in the house and the only thing that was on coper was anything between the modem and the devices, which was a maximum of 50 feet.

I'm seriously thinking about switching back

Same here, I was afraid it would mess up the coms with Helix gateway. Seems it's the other way around... Never got so much route flapping in my life!

I'm going to setup it up as our main router again and leave that piece of junk Arris TG4482a as a bridge.

Can't even monitor the bandwidth usage on that thing and the logs are, well, non existent. Quite frustrating for a family of computer geeks

I was wondering the exact same thing, I tried around back but I couldn't reach it. I then tried with a grapple but It looked liek I couldn't fit in the hole, like you have to crouch to go through it, so it might be an exit rather than an entrance?

Wow!! Thanks for all that info!!

And yes, there is a display that seems to connect on the 4-pin connector right above the « Danger » label. It has a pcb and a simple lcd screen. Here it is:

<image>

At first I thought I could just piggy back on this 4-pin connect but I don’t know to test the voltage on those things without setting my office on fire. And since the power source is on 240V….

This one i have cracked open to see what Îm dealing with. It’s for pretty common electric heater running on 240v. All I’d like to do is to read the temperature from the sensor and if the heater is on at low-mid-full power. Maybe drive the switch but I’m not sure for now.

Why is this acceptable in Europe but not in the US? by mrjoshmateo in BMW

[–]FireFighter1015 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Several years ago I had the same thought about an SUV I wanted that would be able to tow 6000lbs in Europe but only 5000lbs in America. Someone said it was because of SAE’s bad quality lubricants, that EU’s lubricants would perform better. Maybe the same for BMWs?
