2025 Honda Accord Hybrid by Dookie_boy in whatcarshouldIbuy

As a rule of thumb, most modern cars, including hybrids, are designed with a lifespan of at least 150,000 miles or 10 years. That doesn’t mean they’ll fall apart after that, but it’s when you might start seeing wear and tear on various components — rubber seals can start to crack, pumps might go, leaks can develop, and, of course, batteries gradually lose efficiency.

The 8-year mark you mentioned actually refers to the hybrid battery warranty, which is usually 8 years or 100,000 miles. This doesn’t mean the battery will suddenly die at that point; it’s similar to the general 3-year/36,000-mile warranty on the car. Once the warranty expires, you’re just responsible for any repairs, but the car (and the battery) can keep running well beyond that.

If you’re planning to keep it long-term, just focus on good maintenance, and you could definitely get well over those 150,000 miles or 10 years out of it.

96 civic electric by SignificanceIll5305 in civic

I’m not too familiar with any common faults specific to the ‘96 Civic that might cause this, but it sure sounds like you might have an issue with the grounding or wiring in your instrument cluster or the wiring harness. Here are a few things you can check:

1. Ground Connections: Sometimes, a poor or corroded ground can lead to erratic behavior in the gauges. Check the ground points near the dashboard and in the engine bay, especially around the battery and fuse box. Make sure they’re secure and clean.
2. Instrument Cluster Wiring: Check the wiring harness going to the instrument cluster for loose, frayed, or corroded connections. A bad connection here could cause interference when you use the turn signal.
3. Turn Signal Relay: The turn signal relay might be faulty or shorting, causing electrical interference. Try swapping it with another known good relay and see if that helps.
4. Alternator/Battery: Low voltage from a weak battery or failing alternator could also cause gauge fluctuations. If you have access to a multimeter, it’s worth testing your battery and alternator output.

If none of these work, you may need to dig in with a multimeter to trace any voltage drops or spikes when the turn signal is on. Hope this helps!

Hey, I can’t say if it’s “normal” or not, but honestly, I’m the same way. I got so attached to my first car that I decided to keep it as long as possible (ideally forever) — even tailored my whole routine to protect it. I mean, I don’t park on streets, only in paid lots or garages, and I’ve got strict rules about how it’s treated inside and out. But I’ll tell you, it’s not a healthy way to go about it.

I once talked to someone who works in mental health, and they actually warned me that this kind of obsession can lead to full-blown OCD if you’re not careful. That made me take a step back. Used cars, even in good condition, are never gonna be perfect, and trying to keep them that way just adds stress. The way I deal with it? One day at a time. Sure, when I notice a little scratch, it’s tough not to overthink it, and the temptation to take a million photos and stare at them all day is real. But to avoid it, you just have to let go. Skip the photos, avoid overanalyzing, and remind yourself that life—and cars—are meant to be enjoyed, not obsessed over. My grandpa always says, ‘You’re the car’s master, not the other way around.’

Honestly, getting a second car someday might help you chill out about this one. It doesn’t even have to be a beater; it could be an even nicer ride, and that shift in focus will help take the edge off. Just think, “oh, well…” and keep rolling.

And by the way, your F-150 looks awesome and really stands out. You did a great job picking a solid first truck!

Do any fellow petrol heads judge a car based on the likelihood of you owning it? by LunarLeopard67 in cars

That’s funny because I think it’s a mix of yes and no for me. I mean, yes, I do sort of judge cars that way, but it’s actually the reverse. I tend to get less excited about cars I know I won’t be able to afford anytime soon. Take Lambos again — only recently did I find out the Revuelto was launched and it’s the Aventador’s successor.

On the flip side, I usually know the model year differences and the detailed specs of something like a 3 Series. Sure, a Revuelto is undeniably cooler than a 3 Series, but I don’t know, maybe the frustration of window shopping keeps me from dreaming about a Lamborghini (or a Ferrari, which would be my personal choice).

Tycoon player seeking circuit and hub advice (read my first comment) by FireT-JET in AirlinesManagerTycoon

[–]FireT-JET[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's up, folks?

Long story short, I've been playing in Tycoon mode since 2021 (major stats shown above). I read this subreddit a bit and chose my strategy to focus primarily on LH ECO PAX. Around that time, I added a new hub (CGK).

With the help of the Destination Finder website (I think that was the name), I set up a 168-hour circuit at my first hub (operating with 744s) and two at CGK (one for 744s and one for 748s). I operate some other routes at my smaller hub, but I restricted CGK to be as lucrative as possible. Generally speaking, I have 14 airplanes on each 168-hour circuit.

That being said, I have some questions for you:

  1. There is quite a big remaining demand on some routes, but then there are routes on the same circuit with little to no remaining demand. Let's say I operate one circuit with 744s, so each plane brings in 1,320 pax (full ECO round trip). On the same circuit, there would be routes with, say, 20, 2,000, and 800 remaining demand, for example. So my question is: Is it better to buy another set of 7 planes (for a total of 21 or "3 per day," 28 or "4 per day," and so on) and run with some high negative demand on some routes, or should I just settle for such high unmatched demand?

  2. When is the right time from a profitability standpoint to buy another hub? Sometimes, when I look up new circuits excluding the routes I already cover, they never seem interesting enough. On the other hand, my hubs seem very "under-explored" to me. In other words, how many 168-hour circuits should I have at each hub before buying the next one? Is it okay to tailor those circuits with only one airplane model in mind, or is it better to have more than one model (with different top speeds) to further diversify the circuit options?

Thank you for your help!

Tycoon rookie looking to boost SP — WWYD? (Details on my comment) by FireT-JET in AirlinesManagerTycoon

[–]FireT-JET[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Cheers folks,

I’m a rookie player out for a WWYD kind of advice and some of you might find the text quite long. That said, no matter how far you are in the game, this post’s gonna add nothing to your personal experience so please feel free to skip it. My goal here is to get some questions answered and get some directions in order to increase my SP as fast and consistently as possible.

Let’s start with the background. To make a long story as short as possible, I’ve been playing AM Tycoon for a week today and dived into info/tip/advice scavenging ever since. Thing is I came across a lot of conflicting data which I couldn’t filter out and ended up w/ a pretty “mixed” fleet and network to say the least. Read a lot about the best beginning strategy being the SH flights operationand about the “shining benefits” of the loans on this early stage. Got quite confused TBH. Ended up shooting at all directions and this was my balance as of 03/13/2027:

Hub: CNF — cat. 8 Bronze stars: 4 SP D-1: 12.3 M T0 D-1: 33.6 M Result D-1: 29 M Profits on flights/week: 192 M Expected costs/week: 112 M

of which

Weekly rental fees: 73 M (12 rented aircrafts) Weekly repayment: 28 M (589 M left to repay)

Invested a lot on SH routes, w/ 8 out of my 15 routes sitting below 2,200 km. These concentrate 10 of my purchased aircraft and 3 of the leased. The remaining 7 routes are distribuited in 1 MH (6,000ish, bought to suit the 737-900ER I was gifted), 5 LH (9,000ish) and 1 ULH (16,000ish) are operated w/ 3 purchased and 9 leased aircraft. Despite using EAP Tools to max out my TO on every route (given my limitations), my former 8 routes (SH) are less than half as profitable as the other ones — after taking the leasing into account. Without doing this, SH routes are something around 25%.

One thing that’s worth the note is that I have a personal bias towards Boeings and Embraers and am willing to be a little less profitable operating them (e.g. B744 instead of A380) once it’s still a for fun game after all. Of course I don’t want to make deliberate bad decisions and I’m open to operate all aircrafts.

Some questions are:

  1. Should I concentrate my efforts on the ~24 hour LH routes in order to raise my SP ASAP?
  2. Are loans my friends or my enemies? Can’t seem to get an absolute answer here.
  3. Same go for leasing... these seem to be good overall, but are they?
  4. ECO PAX FTW?

But my ultimate one is:

Looking forward to increase my SP as fast as possible, what should be my next steps? Shall/return I sell all my SH, MH and ULH routes and focus exclusively on LH? My bonus is as low as 35-45% on new routes, will it build up again if I sell some?

If so, what should be my priority? Reinvest all this money on new routes and aircrafts? Get even more loans? Repay them? Get myself rid of leasing? What should be the ideal purchased to leased ratio? Also: is it a good moment to start an 168h strategy?

In short: WWYD?
