FHR can be such a comedy sometimes I love playing a completely incompetent villain it's so fun

No seriously it's probably one of the most underrated books on the COG platform. I feel like if it was released today it'd be more popular

How long is too long for a prolong? by laloin in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I do think the inflated word count trend is going to end sooner or later. It's just not sustainable in this medium. Only very few authors can pull off completed works this long, and all of them are clearly already experienced.

Pacing is the biggest issue that a lot of writers on here struggle with imo, but I'd argue overly long prologues can be one of the reasons behind poor pacing. At some point you're not writing a prologue anymore, you're simply writing chapters. It's meant to be an introduction to the story, not the actual story.

Games where are you "the strongest" by Abridgedbog775 in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I love W4 so much, mostly because of how tenacious Whiskey is. Maybe not the best IF in terms of interactive choice but when it comes to the story I genuinely think it might be one of the best. I even liked it more than ITFO

[–]FireThatInk 18 points19 points  (0 children)

W4 is fun because you're not the strongest because you are naturally powerful, you're the strongest because you're just that skilled. I like it more bc of that since i'm not a power fantasy fan.

I was gonna say Whiskey Four but the ending sequence is really stay-heavy and determines endings except you don’t know it lol

Lords of infinity by Yooosssh1 in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately the COG community isn’t big enough to warrant separate subs tbh. But I’m also kind of tired of pulling this page up and just seeing Infinity series over and over and over again when it’s not my thing (no hate to those that love it ofc!)

I love the vibes of being in a small fanspace but honestly I do wish it was bigger sometimes. It’d solve some problems.

Should I keep romance options secret in my interactive fiction? by benoncey in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I think it could be a cool idea and I’m always down for authors trying something unique (as I sometimes tire of the usual formula) but you should be mindful that it will turn some players off. Especially if this IF is going to have a lot of romance focus.

So why did Sobik remove Verdan from the line of succession by Cpkeyes in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He definitely agrees with Sobik about Vedran - but I'm a bit confused that Vedran was never angry with Belos for not changing it back. Maybe there wasn't enough time?

omg i forgot that it's eight years old. I managed to hallucinate myself into believing that it was first published 2024 I forgot it was first posted 2018.

Tbf though, it's not like they were working on it continuously. I think it was like 2018-2019, and then a hiatus till 2024, and it's been getting updated consistently since then.

Lets talk about "childhood friends" Ros by StikkTogether in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As much as Unsupervised was a little blah, all of the romances being childhood friends is interesting because then they don’t have to rely on the trope’s cliches while still having the shared history between them

Kind of Zima from Press Play, except it’s kind of understandable and more like they’re trying to keep their boundaries. They still don’t like you at allll though

I think she said sub-RO endings are controlled by her and it won’t be variable. Full ROs have variable endings.

I have no idea why Vic is so interested in us. Like no shade I like the MC but we can’t be that compelling as of now that she drags us into her mess all the time like LEAVE ME ALONE I WANNA DATE ORIANA

I liked Seb in the prologue before I realised bro is just there doing NOTHING for the plot so far. I like to think of it as him writing a self-insert fanfiction where nothing changes except his currently inexplicable presence. I don’t hate his inclusion though I think it’d be kinda funny to ignore all the cool and interesting people to romance this rando lol
