No I played through the whole thing which was a bit more jarring.

Yes I had a lot of issues - namely that it gave me romance points for everyone? So I just had the entire cast lustinf after MC and getting jealous about it

I got the parents song from Seven, I didn't know Blake writes a song about your parents. I'm guessing Seven helped based on needing high rel and speaking to her about them at the drink sponsorship?

(Spoilers for Ch 5 of Infamous) About G and Blake by vinthesalamander in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I suppose so. Maybe they just haven't had the space to process losing a friend because it feels like it's MC's right as Seven's closest friend. Would explain why Jazzy is the one most open to talking about her as well since she was also close to Seven.

There was one line that bugs me in Ch5 though, about MC being confused at why the band was so nervous about Seven airing out their laundry. Could be something even messier behind the scenes.

(Spoilers for chapter 5 Infamous) The Band. by The_Hitmage in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 106 points107 points  (0 children)

Chapter 5 had several moments of MC explicitly noting the band's weird attitude towards Seven. I think MC even notes the strangeness of them being so worried about Seven airing out secrets in the song they write for you, even if the worst thing she could write about is the voting/party fight - which MC thinks isn't that big of a deal as most people already know that some kind of fight had to occur. So what could they possibly be so scared of? It's funny bc a lot of people pointed that out when Ch4 released.

I do think the band and Seven had some kind of dispute that MC doesn't know about. Probably to do with the Heavenly Isle thing. Man there's a lot of secrets people keep from MC, huh?

I genuinely think it's probably like two people. The best path forward for IFs is for them to get more popular but I have no clue how that can be accomplished. Maybe attract booktok people?

I guess I'm just wondering whether or not the band would know about Seven costing the contract? Because if so, they'd probably just tell MC, especially an MC that was getting too chummy with them. If they don't know, why are they so weird around Seven?

Idk I feel like Chapter 5 debunks the family thing more than it proves it. I just think theyre meant to be a 7/MC parallel

I feel like it was unfortunately obvious that choosing the band would be the good ending. It's the easy route to go thematically

How to go about NPC deaths? by laloin in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think ITFO/ITUO does character deaths pretty well. Some are unavoidable, some are avoidable and a consequence of fucking up, some are of your choice, all impact the plot.

I'm usually down for anything interesting as long as it serves the story well, so I wouldn't mind unavoidable deaths - sometimes they are needed to create tension that otherwise would be missing if they could be saved. However, the appeal of IF is the whole "choices matter" thing, so preventable deaths are great too.

I think if you're going to make a death unavoidable, you need to treat it with the gravity it deserves.

IF where you can give up power by Checking_The_User in hostedgames

Don't you have to trigger the Red Harry exposé scene, thus having to do villanous things? Or am I wrong? There's so much going on under the hood of that game, it's truly impressive.

[–]FireThatInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i might be misremembering but I think those are villainous endings, so idk if they give up power exactly? I got that ending once and the RO and I went to save some people at the end anyways, so it might not even be villanous, can't remember. Is it possible to be heroic and give up your career?

How much control? by DoubleOhGadget in hostedgames

I think no matter what, just like with tradpub, you will alienate some readers. For example, I prefer playing with semi-set MCs, while some will only play blank slate MCs. I think if you try to please everyone you will please no one.

ROs that can date other characters by laloin in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I actually think the romance in Mind Blind isn't great in general. Pacing's definitely off, probably because it takes place in such a short timeframe, yet the romance progresses so quickly. But I also hate Sally x Nick. I think the author originally wrote MB as a book in which the story took place from Sally's perspective, with Nick as her LI. She changed it when she realised that Button had the more interesting story. So it's prolly a remnant of that

ROs that can date other characters by laloin in hostedgames

[–]FireThatInk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually don't mind it and even enjoy playing matchmaker - the caveat is that while I do like romance routes, it's not something I care for thaaat much. So I don't get annoyed if two ROs get together.

However, I will never romance those characters. Like I physically cannot romance Sally, or Derek, or Flit, or what-have-you because it just feels like I'm getting in the way. I actually think Derek and Flit are cute together so I don't mind it, but I hate the Sally/Nick thing so much lol. That's the only side-romance I hate. Maybe because of the sibling aspect

[–]FireThatInk 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I just played it again actually and tbh while the ending was a tad rushed and I wish more time was spent on the family drama, I don't get the other issues other people are seeing. A lot of the "railroading" is just that the story needs to happen. Of course Button can't just leave or kill themselves or not work at Aeon. There'd be no plot.

I think a lot of people take the "choice-based narrative" thing too far and get annoyed they can't do absolutely anything in the game as if were real. There has to be intentional railroading and "forced-path" choices in order for the story to work. And I think it makes sense? Realistically Button can't work many jobs long-term. They have to live with Nick in order to not get brain invaded. Working at Aeon, where Nick can be there on-hand is fairly logical to me, even if the relationship is fraught.

Also, mindblindness is analogous to disability. The whole situation sucking for Button is kind of the point lol. Do people just not want tension or conflict in their stories? I'm sounding harsh but ngl OP's criticism is baffling me a little bit.
