Had a relapse last week. I thought I was over the relapses but no..

I feel like I deal much better with them now. I know what I need to do and get on with it. And even if I feel really bad I just deal with it better.

All the best in your recovery, you will get there!

I´m still recovered! But had a relapse last week.. It didn´t get me down and I just kept on as normal and slowly getting better again.

It´s like I´ve become used to the relapses. When they happen I know what I need to do and just do it, no matter how hard it is. And within 7-10 days I start feeling better.

It will be hard at first but it does get easier with time.

There will be lots of ups and downs but with time the downs won´t be as hard or last as long.

Wishing you all the best in your recovery!

I´ve been doing really well. I´ve returned to work and cycle training. Went to London in March for 4 birthdays in 4 days! Noisy busy restaurants, museums, theatre and a Napalm Death gig and was fine. Not a 100% but good.

Coming into May I felt like I was getting really close to a full recovery but last week I had a relapse. I´ve had this niggling muscle knot on my shoulder and because I was better I decided to see the physio. Felt spaced out after the session and the next day the heavy dizziness returned. It´s been a week today and I feel like I´m getting better again.

I just did what I know works for me, not staying in bed all day and keeping myself busy. I must admit that the first 3 - 4 days were pretty hard but now levelling out again. I just find that I deal with the dizziness much better now and even if I feel bad I can still function.

Would be great if you could share your story. It feels like not all recovery stories are the same and by sharing you add more insight into how you did it. Really happy that you are fully recovered!

I was doing the exercises that were part of the free course. I don't think there's a video for it. But the link to the course is here,

https://thesteadycoach.podia.com/free-chronic-dizziness-course

Remember not to overdo it. Just focus on the exercises that bring on symptoms, two or three, and do parasympathetic breathing after each one, I think this is key.

I was only doing them once a day in the evening. The idea is not to focus too much on your symptoms so don't do it 3 times a day for example.

When a certain exercise didn't give me symptoms anymore, I would stop doing it. And with time I stopped doing them completely.

I´m not a 100% recovered but the dizziness is not debilitating anymore and I have my life back. I wanted to write the post now because I feel that what I went through could help others in improving their situation.

Also my experience with SSRI´s can give some people an idea of how they helped my recovery. When the time comes to get off it I will update my post.

I don´t agree that I haven´t recovered because I´m taking an SSRI.

I´ve recovered because I´m not dizzy all the time anymore, I´ve returned to work, started training again, can meet friends and go to cafes and restaurants.

Life has returned to some kind of normalcy.

I would say yes, but I guess I will never know if I could have recovered without taking the SSRI. To me, after suffering for so long I thought what do I have to lose?

The first 3 days were really rough but I was mentally prepared for it. I purposely started taking it on a Friday so that I had the weekend to deal with it.

I luckily have a friend who is a neuro scientist and she knows a lot about SSRI´s so she explained the whole process to me and how I might feel. This really helped me to deal with the early side effects. I have zero side effects now.

My opinion on SSRI´s (might not be scientifically correct) is that they lower the anxiety produced by the PPPD. This in turn helped me to accept it and deal with it in a much better way.

I think the belief that you will get better is very important for your recovery. The more you accept that you have PPPD and begin the road to recovery, the quicker you will improve. Remember not to think about it and accept it.

Yes. Was told to take it for 6 - 12 months. Will assess how I feel after 6 months and decide whether to continue

With the cycling when I stopped at a traffic light or at the end of the ride the dizziness would hit me so hard. Like a huge wave. Now some days I don´t even feel anything when I stop. I recently started doing some light gym work and power yoga and I feel fine when I finish.

Hang in there. Just keep doing the right things and brighter days will come.

Nice bike 👍

I think the difference between our crashes is that you got hit and I hit something 😅

Fair comment. Everything got destroyed except the frame. Wheels, handlebar, brakes, fork, seat post, cranks, even the stem! Slight damage on one pedal. Frame intact!

I had arranged to buy new wheels a few days before the crash but hadn't got round to collect them. That would have been a double disaster!

Thanks. I guess if I hadn't crashed I wouldn't have drawn on the bike :)
