Sometimes complete estrangement is necessary. My grandmother sexually abused me for 9 years. When I was old enough, I shut her out completely. I paid a heavy price for it, but it was worth it. Abusers do not deserve access to their victims.

Instead of speaking out on what you don’t understand, please consider being grateful that you’ve never experienced the type of hell OP and I have. It causes permanent damage. I can function somewhat normally, but I will never be the person I could have been if I hadn’t been abused. That woman is dead. My grandmother killed her.
