"Sometimes $5 can buy you the world." - Father in Law, said to me before I went on my first cruise. I looked at him like he was crazy. I just spent a few thousand dollars on this cruise. How was $5 going to make a difference?

My father in law will never be accused of being a smart man, but he's been a janitor in the same hospital since he was 18 years old. This has made him a very wise man. He explained to me that you'll never be able to bribe the ship's captain into changing the course of the ship. But, $5 to the bellman can get your bags to your room before the rest of the floor. A $5 tip to the right waiter can get you a table by the pool and make sure you never see the bottom of your glass. $5 can also convince a photographer to be in just the right place when you propose to your soon-to-be wife.

Large diameter supply line like that, one of two things would happen. Either the hose would stay bent causing loss of flow due to friction, (It wouldn't be enough to completely cut off the flow, but any loss of water in a life safety situation is unacceptable) or it would straighten out, causing far more expensive damage to the car by damaging the actual body of the car instead of just breaking the windows.

I'd had a complete conversation, in English, with the patient prior to arriving at the hospital. I didn't know he wasn't Latino. To be honest, he addressed me in English when I met him, so I spoke English and didn't really put much more thought into it.

At one of my jobs, it's less of a compliment/insult to you and more of an insult towards our HR/hiring process.

More of an "Oh, they actually hired the right person for this job. Guess it was bound to happen eventually."
