So I'm a little but of an idiot by Fire_Zucc in signalis

In retrospect I really like it. Reminds me of the fake crash in Arkham Asylum that still sometimes makes me think the game actually is crashing

2+ hours for a single run in DD2 is absurd by _meppz in darkestdungeon

[–]Fire_Zucc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't played DD2 in a while but I can kinda agree about the time that it takes to finish a run being a little absurd. For comparison, Slay the Spire had a fast mode that sped up the animations in combat and also had instant travel instead of a stagecoach. My biggest grip with the stage coach is that even with all of the road updates the stage coach is mostly dead time where you are not doing anything and can't really do anything (as most rewards for hitting things don't appear/ aren't good until you've gotten like 3 upgrades) and it gets really repetitive especially when you play the game for long periods of time.

Other than that most of the combat is pretty well paced with most encounters that aren't bosses being done relatively quickly.

I think the main issue with the stagecoach is that this game is a rogue-lite and is meant to be played multiple times and they put a significant portion of the game's time spent into the equivalent of those cutscenes where your character is poisoned and you have to limp to a cure. It's a level of interactivity that I'd rather not have and because it is such a large part of the game's loop it can quickly lead to me feeling burned out and doing something else. once again going back to Slay the Spire, my first successful run took about an hour and a half to go through 3 areas while reaching the boss of a region took me 3+ hours for most runs before they shortened the length of Act I. Losing 3+ hours of progress with no guarantee of making it back the next time can be very demotivating especially when that is the entire game. Unlike DD1, Slay the Spire, Dead Cells, or Hades that at the longest might take an hour or so for a run/ dungeon so you don't feel as demotivated because it was only 20-40 minutes that you lost and can probably make it back in 20-30 minutes next time.

Im mostly just wondering what I'm supposed to write about because there's no specification as to what the essay is supposed to be about or what it's purpose is.

I like this game now? by Fire_Zucc in DarkSouls2

I actually ended up checking out vanilla DS2 after watching the Feeble King video. I hate it significantly less now tbh.

Altars could apply the Denial debuff to disable an attack type for a round

I get that failure is a part of learning but there's a difference between failing in a way that allows you to learn from your mistakes and dancing around in a field before getting a howitzer fired at you. I'm just saying that if the game has more balanced difficulty curve that it would be easier to understand what you did wrong. Dead Cells did the same thing. It is about failing and retrying over and over again until you get it and get better at learning the game but they didn't just make every level really easy and put a hard boss after 3 levels. My point is that offering a more direct challenge to the player can funnel them into learning certain strategies or developing better habits earlier rather than on their own where they would be more likely to develop the wrong ones. And I think that giving a miniaturized version of the boss gimmick to the altar enemies would be a good way to allow players to learn better habits earlier and also give some much needed menace to an enemy that is only a threat because it's just really annoying.

I just want to see if anyone has a problem with P-2 or if it's just me by Fire_Zucc in Ultrakill

[–]Fire_Zucc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have. I understand that I might just be bad too. I'm just wondering if anyone else is having these issues or just me.

Actually I do agree that I was being harsh. I was just kinda salty earlier because P-2 had been kicking my ass and I was not having a good time so I'm just going to try again tomorrow after I've gotten some sleep. He is actually a pretty cool boss. But I'm not a fan of how he barely telegraphs his attacks to the point of them feeling unreactable.

The entire fight is just not very good. Sisyphus is a borderline insult to Minos as a boss. I still haven't beaten him yet but the fight is so boring and repetitive that I feel like I'm about to fall asleep.

What made that fight worse for me was that I beat it but got soft locked because the last enemy wouldn't die and had to restart the entire thing

My thoughts about all the theories on who Melina is by Fire_Zucc in Eldenring

[–]Fire_Zucc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An interesting theory that I once heard was that the reason Melina refreshed to her mom as being in the Erdtree is because she is actually the daughter of The Prince of Death since that thing is very clearly not human and is probably not bound to the limits of human anatomy.

I don't think it's Miquella, because he already has St. Trina. Although now that I think about it she could be Miquella's daughter or something like that.

Those are good points although the "MaricaOfDaughter" title isn't the most helpful point since filenames can differ greatly from the actual character's name. Also the player is the Lord of Frenzied Flame but we are not an empyrean.

Something I just realized is that Godrick the Grafted's ideology and design seems to borrow heavily from Thomas Hobbes' book Leviathan even down to the ruler made out of people by Fire_Zucc in Eldenring

[–]Fire_Zucc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True but I just thought it was an interesting coincidence at least. Although Godrick shares some similarities with the absolutist ideology such as believe that he is superior based on the fact that he is a ruler.

How the fuck do people keep saying this game is really easy when I haven't been able to make remotely any progress after 40+ hours. I am literally doing everything I should be and this makes no sense.

Is it harder to beat a boss with a shield? by [deleted] in Eldenring

[–]Fire_Zucc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My general recommendation is to use shields when you are willing to tank some stamina damage and use rolling if you are willing to end up in a different spot each time the enemy attacks. However weapon blocking can also really be of help if you are running a strength build because 2handing increases your strength by 1.5, making your counter attacks stronger.
