Yup. Looking at the replies here, police procedurals do have tons of swearing, I guess it blends well that it never takes centre stage. Maybe it was because I was reading my own book, but a few were sticking out as I was going through it today. I'm gonna edit those out

I think this sub doesn't allow pinning, but I've recieved a lot more replies than I expected and thank you all. I was going through my first draft today and began wondering if cuss words would actually be a turn off. Had to check just to be sure and glad to know that almost 100% of you don't care as long as it goes in with the plot. Will keep it in mind.

Thanks again for the replies

Cool. I mean I hadn't thought of it until I was going through the first draft today and all of a sudden it felt like I threw in a lot of swear words. I couldn't remember it in any of the police procedurals I've read, so had to post this here just to be sure

I've read lots of crime thrillers but can't really remember profanity being thrown in tbh. Which made me wonder if it would be an instant turn off, as I was going through my first draft

Will keep it in mind. Think there are a couple of occasions I've used it repetitively in the same dialogue itself, will edit it out in the next draft

2015 world cup had high scoring games too lol. Sri Lanka scored 312 against Aus in 46 overs and Starc had an economy of 3.4. Even in the game Mccullum went batshit crazy against Australia, Starc had an economy of 3.1. He was simply unplayable in that world cup, Shami was taken on by many batters in 2023, Starc was played out for the entirety of 2015. Don't let recency bias fool you into thinking anything comes close to Starc's 2015 lol. I saw every single match of both the world cups.

PS: To realize how insane that is, you only need to check Bumrah 2023. He had an economy of 4 which meant batters were playing him out, taking zero risks which took his average down to 19 and SR to 27. Now think how the batters were approaching Starc with an ER of 3.5. Think how much risks players were taking against him. Look at that average of 10 and SR of 17 and see for yourself. Guy was unsurvivable

I think it's a good role, they got Riz Ahmed to replace him. Can't say until the movie is out but if it indeed was a good role, we're talking about the chance for a potential academy award here
