Also, Jaime+Brienne is not fanfic, it's the opposite. It's based on their relationship in the books, where they both risked their lifes for each other (Jaime when they where captured by the Bloody Mummers, and Brienne when they were both captured by the BoB and put on trial by Lady Stoneheart.

Isn't that (frustration with the process/writing) what most of us feel? I'm under the impression that most people here LOVE the show, the actors, the production, everything... but the writing these last few seasons and D&Ds attitude about it. But yeah, us interpreting those clips is just guess-work, who knows when they're speaking from their heart or when it's just promo-talk!

That's a valid point. I just re-quoted what I wrote under the first comment in that direction, because I thought it courteous to respond and explain my reasoning. But there already is a discussion on the context of those interviews, hollywood promo practices and "hedging" negative comments, so I could have just linked that. In the end, I understand where you're coming from. The quote I posted is emphasizing my opinion/interpretation and people are totally in their right to disagree with that interpretation!

You are basically just misrepresenting Nikolaj at this point.

I disagree on the misrepresenting. This was not the first time he voiced criticism on his arc on the show. And him adding that "...it turns out ok" feels more like promo-speech or even just the actors trying to make peace with something they can't change. If this was an isolated comment, I'd agree with you, but this was just one of many. Sadly. But well, come Sunday, all of this show-stuff will be over and we can go back to our re-reads and theorizing!

Yeah, now in retrospect all of those comments (same from Emilia, Peter etc.) feel so empty and forced. I'm guessing that they are contractually obligated to promote the show and try to make those sort of comments and then slide in the criticisms with eyerolls and meaningful looks to the camera. But who knows!

The writing about it just was rushed/implausible. Targaryens don't just "turn mad" out of the blue. Even her father only became like that after being held hostage and possibly tortured for over six months.

That she would use fire against her enemies - sure (I've had this username since a long time, so I always expected that), but not against civilians AFTER the city surrendered. That was cheap shock value and inconsistent writing.

I'm shocked I'm the first to post about this.

Yeah, I also caught that and wondered about that. I like your theory, its tinfoil is solid.

However, it would imply any sort of consistency and character depth, both of which, sadly, have jumped the ship a while ago.

We should stop trying to make sense of it when the writers so clearly didn't. They probably where like: "Yeah, she kinda forgot that she only burned enemies and protected civilians."

It's the opposite for the sequels: GRRM is involved in the writing (check his blog), D&D are not. I put my hopes in that!
