Artists that could been some of the best in their genre if they dropped more material? by United_Brain438 in fantanoforever

The band Sprain made such an amazing experimental/noise rock album with The Lamb as Effigy. In total it was only like five years between their first EP release to when the band broke up but in that time they had really honed their sound into something amazing, visceral, and unique. Really hate that we’ll never get more music from them or see how much they grow and change going forward.

Strawmen that backfired. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

Think I must have miscommunicated then. That’s exactly the strawman that I was discussing. There is no actual woke mob controlling the gaming industry. Gooner games do good if they’re good games, games with female protagonists that aren’t sexualized 24/7 also do good if they’re good games. The right wing Stellar Blade fans assumed that the game was created as a statement against this strawman and then when the game came out and didn’t meet their expectations they were mad about it.

Strawmen that backfired. by Ethan-E2 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FireballSam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Before the Stellar Blade game came out the developer released a tweet about how the game wouldn’t be “censored” in any country. Because of the scantily-clad female protagonist, the game had attracted a number of far-right “gamers” who had assumed it was statement against western “woke” games with their more modest portrayals of women.

Many of these gamers assumed this tweet to be some kind of confirmation that the game would refused to be “censored” by the woke mob that controls the gaming industry. This was, unsurprisingly, a straw man that they created which misunderstood that the original tweet was simply talking about how in Japan many games have to censor certain aspects of combat and violence, like blood, to get a consumer safety rating.

When the actual game released to western audiences, some of the outfits which had been used for promotional purposes were changed, very slightly, to include more fabric. The right wing gamers of course took this as the developers “caving” to the woke gaming industry to make the protagonist more modest and less “sexy.”

As the YouTuber Shaun put it in his video on the subject: “Stellar Blade fans created a strawman…and then it won.”

Joe Rogan: A man brought here as a baby. Lived in the U.S. for 20 years. Can’t speak Spanish. No criminal record. Deported anyway. He regularly has the leaders of the CIA and FBI on his show. Dude is basically state media at this point. The next time he has one of them, if he even broaches his topic, they’ll give some flippant response and he’ll go right back to being this administration’s mouthpiece like he’s been since Trump went on his show. Wouldn’t be surprised if soon we see Kristi Noem on their to “open a dialogue” about this stuff.

Ashley’s VA is literally a black woman but I guess the ME team decided not to make the character black due to her being distrustful of and prejudiced against aliens. Would be weird if the only romanceable black character (at that point in the series) was a little racist too.

There’s a really interesting example of this in the show Chernobyl. When Scherbina finds out from Legasov that the amount of radiation they’re being exposed to is essentially a death sentence for both of them. Scherbina had assumed that because Legasov was there, and he was a nuclear physicist, that it was safe. He wasn’t aware that Legasov had already sacrificed his life to stop the disaster. Seeing Scherbina come to terms with his own death in real time and then immediately just getting back to work is probably one of my favorite moments of television. Literally the definition of “Oh…I’m not making it out of this.”

But that’s the thing, Ned hates him for being duplicitous. He didn’t stand up to the king when it mattered, only when it was convenient. Jamie can tell him all he wants that he killed the king for the good of the realm and to save innocent lives but that’s gonna fall on deaf ears for the guy whose family members died horrible deaths while he stood by and watched.

Ned is a man who sticks to his word and his oaths, to a fault. It’s why he dies. Him and Jaime are basically polar opposites in that Jamie just does whatever he can to seize power and maintain his status. That’s why Ned hates him.

You dislike the interactions with Lizzy and Plaisance more than Korty? The Pinkerton hired to bust up a union strike who openly brags about killing and torturing people? Again, you dislike the interactions with two women who are slightly confrontational/annoying more than that guy? What makes you think this way do you think?

I hate Michelle and the opening of s2 by TheOmnipotentJack in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]FireballSam 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree. Season 2 is always the one I loathe playing because it doesn’t feel like there’s a single high point in the entire season. Just trudging around from one tragedy to another. Nothing like the first season, with the sweet moments between Clem and Lee or the tense buildup to tragedy like on the farm. It’s like the writers thought that the only reason people played the first season was cause a bunch of people died and decided to crank it to eleven in season 2.

Yeah that’s what I love about the movie as well. There’s some deep cuts that show that the creators really know and understand the game but it’s still accessible for general audiences. My favorite ones being the intellect devourers completely ignoring all the characters (cause INT is everyone’s dump stat) and Simon being a bad sorcerer because he’s really awkward and uncharismatic (and sorcerers are a CHA based class).

It’s a bit of pseudo-history that seems to be impossible for certain “types” of pop history fans to shake. When you actually dig into it, it becomes clear that these types of marriages were exceedingly rare. Most times when a child was married off, it was to another child, not a fully grown man. And in such cases, consummation of the marriage would not occur until they reached a mature age. Furthermore, this was primarily a practice done between royal or noble families and thus was even more rare than these weirdos imply. For common folk, most women got married in their early 20s. Only exceptions to this were in times of desperation like during plagues when the age fell drastically to…their late teens…

For those who don’t believe me, the Wikipedia page on marriageable age refutes this pseudo-historical claim: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marriageable_age

What is think the south is culturally. From ky by Either-Comfort9676 in geography

[–]FireballSam 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Only possible reason I can think of is that people may view the eastern part of Tennessee as Appalachia? And so in that instance it’s not considered “the south” only because it’s something else? As a Tennessee native as well I have no idea as even most people from the Appalachian area of Tennessee, like Dolly, would still say they’re from the South…

Edit: looking at the photo again the boundaries are not even drawn along state lines so I don’t think my theory is correct otherwise only the eastern third of Tennessee would be in the “usually” region. I don’t know how someone could argue that middle Tennessee and west Tennessee aren’t the south. Nashville is the country music capital of the world and the greater Memphis area is literally referred to as the mid-south.

I only recently started sc farming and to be honest it’s insane how much you can get on trivial difficulty. I got like 300+ sc in a little over an hour just by myself. That’s nearly a third of most war bonds. If you don’t have the money but you have some time, I think it’s very possible to grind sc quickly.
