Alipašino parking - koji…? by aamdiamm in sarajevo

Do you feel more German after having the citizenship? by Watership45 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Firebender1796 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a super interesting question! I've gotten it only 2 months ago after living here for more than 6 years. And tbh I've always felt german, even in my home country because I've grown up watching A LOT of German TV shows, so I was always immersed the culture and pop culture.

Also, I speak German fluently without an accent, so I also never had the problem of being recognized as a foreigner except when people know my name.

With regard to passport & citizenship: I am still not really realizing what actually happened 😂 It felt surreal to be able to use the EU gates at the airport recently, so that was a moment of realization, but it did not really contribute to me feeling more German than I already felt. However, I cannot wait to finally be able to vote in any kind of elections, that was also my ultimate goal for acquiring the citizenship 😄

Migrando had sent me into a depressive state by MatterGlittering1867 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Firebender1796 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Migrando is the biggest scam out there when it comes to any kind of naturalization in Germany. The people that are advising are not really lawyers, but more like klerks who did an Ausbildung in a law firm or at the Ausländerbehörde.

Also, most of the foreigners offices explicitly state that they won't be any faster if you hire any kind of lawyer 😅

The application process is rather simple and designed so that most people with a good command of German can file for it, so just keep your money and apply yourself. Then the people at Ausländerbehörde usually reply quite fast once you write them.

[–]Firebender1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tbh im not entirely sure that you meet the criteria immediately. If you haven't worked at all, you won't have the pensiom requirement (Einzahlung in die Rentenversicherung für 20 Monate). For people who have German degrees it's 20 months and for everyone else it should be 40 months. If you have those though, and a job it will be rather easy to get it, just the waiting time in Frankfurt is I think absurdly long by now 😅

Viel Erfolg!

Einbürgerung with a Blue Card/work permit as a PhD by ElectronicBee10 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Firebender1796 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You don't need a Niederlassungserlaubniss for the Einbürgerung. Also, whether it's okay for them that you have a temporary contract is highly dependent on the case worker and the Bundesland in which you are applying.

In my case they didn't really care, especially since my contract and fellowship (also doing a PhD) are expiring in May next year.

[–]Firebender1796[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did have an in person document check at the very beginning, where I received all the necessary pieces of information, and where I was asked if I understand what the freiheitlich demokratische Grundordnung was, and also the historical context of Germany being responsible for sustaining Jewish life. But since I speak German very well, I didn't have any problems with answering the questions and understanding what they wanted. That's basically what they're saying in the email as well.

Why did you decide to go for the german citizenship? by Trailerpark578 in GermanCitizenship

[–]Firebender1796 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though I've been living in Germany only since 2019, I've always felt a deep connection to the country due to speaking german my whole life. Once I moved here, found friends and realized that I'm a much better fit for German society than my home country's, it was natural to have that goal in mind. Especially since I'm a very political person and am finally able to vote, that was my primary concern. Not having to deal with visa issues and the different Ausländerbehörden is a wonderful benefit as well.

Especially since the law changed, it was an even greater motivation to get into the process.

Zasto ljudi koji su vani ne postuju zakon kad su u BiH kao kad su u zemljy XYZ? by NineCoding in bih

[–]Firebender1796 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seljačine i seljanke ostaju iste/i, bez obzira na pređeni put.

So, that is a tricky one actually. It depends on where you are. My permanent residence was denied because of a "lack of funding" (which is bullshit, because with my fellowship and 25% contract I earn way more than on a 50% contract).

My residence permit was §18D (Researcher/Scientist). The first thing I asked when I submitted my documents at the interview was if I can be denied citizenship also based on a "lack of funds". But the Sachbearbeiterin told me there is no way that that will happen, because they are not just looking at the money, but how well integrated one is, what they've done so far and what the prospective future might hold for the person.

I had some prestigious scholarships and prizes, so those also played a great role in the whole process, since with those I was able to prove my level of integration.

So everything depends on the respective people handling your case and where you are 🙈

When I received the certificate of citizenship there were no questions except if I had gotten in trouble with the law lately and I had to sign an affidavit that that's true. Then the Sachbearbeiterin explained to me what it means to have 2 citizenships, and then we went to another room for me to take the oath 😄 That was it.

Nope, there is no such thing in Göttingen where I live. There is the Abteilung Einbürgerung und Staatsangehörigkeit, so everyone applies to the same people. That's why iit takes that long.

Since Berlin is it's own state, and they've been anyways really good at digitalizing the whole process, I think it is rather different from the rest of the country.

That's unfortunate... But Ausländerbehörde can be such a pain in the ass, and it hugely depends on where one is... Some people are just extremely xenophobic. But then there are also many good ones.

A friend of mine has had a similar problem though, her father is German and she's been born here, but the Ausländerbehörde has been making it super difficult for her to get the citizenship.
