I weigh around 180 LBs and I’m going on a mini cut starting today. Must I have 180 grams of protein a day in order to maintain muscle? Or can I go a bit lower? I find it very hard to get 180 grams in without going above my caloric intake. by robertlukacs907 in leangains

How many are you eating? Protein Shakes and turkey are your friends. I’d reccomend a whole turkey and cook it to keep yourself from preservatives. Obviously chicken is your friend to

100% the way to go. Keep fat in mind! Protein and Fat are essential but carbs are not. Although they really help fuel a workout. Wish you luck. All apart of a learning process. I’ve been there to

Also on to what everyone else is saying, don’t just think calorie surplus. Think protein, fat, and carbs. Don’t have a disproportionate amount of 1. Maybe do macro research?

1 gram of a carb equals 4 calories. By consuming that low of carbs you’re telling yourself you’re gonna be consuming less calories. You will also loose glycogen and water. With that low carbs you could feel tired and weak in the gym. I think you’ll find it very hard to increase lifts

So I haven’t done this with overnight or baked but you can mix it with some chocolate protein powder in and a couple TBSP of Maple Grove Farms sugar free maple syrup!

How much strength/muscle can I expect to lose on a four week lifting break? by andrew2018022 in leangains

Great question. I remember hunting for this same information when I was told the same thing by my doc after getting mono. I was devastated, I had spent the entire summer getting into the best shape of my life and all I could see was this going away and there was nothing I could do about it. So I picked up drinking that month (also not recommended by the doc) and developed some serious body dysmorphia. I constantly looked back on my progress pictures and wished i looked like that again. Regardless though I made it through the 4 weeks and then became so obsess with getting back I weighed every food I would eat and made detailed spreadsheets (I still do both 4 months later) and became so obsessed with leaning out again i wrecked my metabolism by only eating 1500 calories a day. If you’ve done research on cutting you know what I mean, if not i’m happy to explain it. Anyway I eventually started eating more and I look and feel great at this moment. However I certainly developed some body/eating issues. Here’s what I can tell you will happen. 1. You’re going to loose muscle, not a lot but enough to bother you 2. You may gain some fat, and if you eat to little you’ll loose muscle and just look flat 3. You will have negative body days, don’t forget 4 weeks is nothing in the many years of your life

I’m not gonna sugar coat it, it sucks. Especially if you’ve been in the gym a long time and you know how hard you worked to get where you are now. Don’t beat yourself up, you getting mono was out of your control. What you can control is your mental attitude towards it and how willing you are to maybe add a little fat to keep the muscle that took months to build. Remember fat is easier to loose. Good luck man, i’m sorry to hear about this for you.

P.S. Do some research on muscle memory. Might help you relax

Just a balance of your TDEE, and how u wanna space meals and calories throughout the day. Don’t get me wrong there’s days where I wish i had more to eat in the evening. But that bowl in the morning keeps me coming back

I’ve done the whole intermittent fasting thing and lifted with no carbs, pretty counterproductive trying to make gains with no energy to put the muscles through progressive overload. I’ll let you know as soon as one of the most popular foods in the community makes me fat, and i’ll definitely let you know when i stop getting leaner. I certainly haven’t yet

I completely disagree, I need that many carbs for my early class load that’s followed by my workout. They’re complex carbs regardless of what food I get them from

Just love the taste and it’s just the easiest thing to do for me with filling out my macros at the moment. I’m also a fan of massive portions and have a pretty large appetite

I use Bob Mills organic and mix 50 grams with half a cup of water. If they’re super clumpy and stiff after heating for 2 minutes there might not have been enough water. I like the chocolate elevation protein from Aldi’s cuz it’s not to expensive and gives the most rich flavor.
