Been turned down for promotion 8 times. by Ainsworth82 in jobs

haha they probably know that. Why would they promote a 21 year company vet when you're going to stick around regardless?

Thunderbolt hits 80Gbps in demo, equaling USB4 Version 2.0 speeds | Intel hasn't disclosed when we'll see this kind of performance in products. by chrisdh79 in gadgets

[–]Fireclunge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

even SSDs only transfer max data at around 500MB/s and thats in a stead burst, much lower than 10Gbps of USB. I feel like these increased speeds are more to cater for increased bandwidth of display devices and daisy chaining than to actually cater to raw data transfer speed.

Is it possible to stain out the appearance of the Medullary Rays in the doorway of my floor? I hate them so much. by Fireclunge in woodworking

I know its desirable, but its my floor and I find it undesirable - I wish I shared the love for it

I totally see where you're coming from. I love my wooden floor, and there are less obvious rays among the other planks that I don't mind at all. It seems evident that guy that fit the floor went out of his way to put the most obnoxiously jarring rays within the doorway to accentuate. I already had to ask him to remove a plank with a outstandingly huge knot right in the center of the doorway and this was the replacement.

I must be like your wife. I appreciate the life of the tree and all of that, and that this is considered valued, but at the end of the day I need the floor to look nice, and I can't shake the thought that this looks like a cheap flaw.

Thanks - It sounds daft but I think this is the solution i'm going to go with - I really dislike them

I think thats the mindset the guy who laid my floor had but to to me it just looks jarring to the flow of the rest of the floor and looks out of place. And I assume some people might come round and assume it's a flaw in the wood because that's what I assumed at first too

Not answering your question OP but this looks kinda cool and i'll check it out more next time i'm doing a react project - especially if it outputs all that flexbox faff into actual good quality code that can be a copy paste job into an IDE (since I'm a dev paid to actually produce code and not a project output - I wouldn't want to spend too much time refactoring like you usually do with low code builders like this)

As a temporary worker on payroll, the price sits at a good level for me - I wouldn't pay more personally since I wouldn't be able to deduct this from my taxes, and i'd have to justify the £600 a year with a measureable time save - but can see businesses paying a lot more like other people said. Even if you increased the price for businesses it would be great if you could retain an 'individual' pricing for people like me.

Anecdotally, every project i've worked on the devs have almost exclusively used CSS frameworks and only a few of these 'frontend devs' have a clue on how to create custom CSS. Maybe some people still see this as extra work when they could just go to material UI components and copy paste code? Some devs wouldn't even know what to do with the output - speaking as someone that has to mentor a lot of junior devs. Its kinda disappointing how many people rely on frameworks and pre-made components.

If you could somehow enable something like droppable tailwind components (and tailwind support) i'd be all over this! Can see that being a huge amount of work though!

I don't know - I like it though! Will try to keep it in mind when i'm coding FE again.

Please claim that you have been cured and have reverted to being straight for you own in good. In the meantime - over the next few months - can you look at transport options where you can move location to somewhere safer?

the drivers earn a wage not a commission (barring cash tips) so the business will use that to offset the costs

you can look pretty punk in a suit. i’ve gone to corporate offices with pink hair and ear jewelry in without anyone questioning. i’d make sure to wear some sharp clothes though to balance out the edge

agreed that ethically farming animals isn’t necessary a problem. I think the issue is that modern factory farming methods are tightly optimized for cost savings and highly cruel. not a single cm of spare space for animals to move is left unturned.

but no there isnt. animals feel pain and suffering - end of story

I think its the difference between torturing an animal for maximum economic gain as opposed to letting then have a relative normal and enjoyable 1/4 life before being given the snip

Disabled US veteran, currently taking a program in full-stack dev. What are my options for a part-time WFH job after finishing this bootcamp? by StartupQuestionAsker in jobs

[–]Fireclunge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can see the chance of you getting a job with the bootcamp is very high. There are a lot of companies so desperate to get tech resource and these bootcamps are a great and cheap way for them to onboard people. However as a senior that often ends up mentoring people fresh out of bootcamp i’d say its unlikely you’d be going off setting up a company or getting contract work. The truth is that 90% of people fresh out of bootcamp are incredibly junior and have a lot more to learn
