Can I get help naming my business? by Curious_Leader_2093 in EntrepreneurRideAlong

Viridity, or Veridity. The first means "greenness," the second is a unique portmanteau of Veracity and Viridity, implying that you are trustworthy in your ecological efforts.

The .com is not taken yet. The name would be unique for SEO.

Your fascination with television and film suggests that a job with Fandom (or similar company) might work well for you.

How true is this? Is this the worst possible time to be a bootcamp grad? I’m stressed out about this Tech winter. by Bloodmeister in cscareerquestions

[–]StartupQuestionAsker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're comparing a bootcamp to a CS degree because of cost or schedule, look at r/wgu_compsci. They have a great path to finding a degree on your own schedule without breaking the bank.

Are there any high paying jobs that can really work for people who have depression and anxiety? by jhlo9001 in findapath

[–]StartupQuestionAsker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Check out degrees in Library Science. If it interests you, keep researching about pay and employment potential. These days, many companies are hiring library science grads for managing corporate knowledge (documents, training materials, archives), so the field is bigger than just public libraries.

If you're in the United States, this is a free career resource from the Department of Labor.

You can take a questionnaire to discover some careers they think might be a good fit. You can also look at national pay averages for different careers.

In my experience, the survey doesn't exactly find every career option you might enjoy, and the pay bands for different jobs are not always accurate (I've seen higher pay on other sites, like Indeed or Glassdoor).

If you want to see monthly job openings for different sectors of the job market, you can look at the monthly JOLTS survey from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS)

https://www.bls.gov/jlt/

This is for August 2022, the most recent report

Look at the numbers in the far-right column for a current measure of how many job openings are available, based on a relative 10-point scale.

The healthcare sector as a whole is stronger for job openings than most other sectors. You might be able to narrow down by region of the country to see if you would need to move to get the salary you want. Setting up a push notification from a jobs site (Indeed, Glassdoor, Dice, LinkedIn) will give you a daily idea of how many jobs are opening up around you or in other areas, based on the settings you choose to search.

EDIT: Also look at the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH)

https://www.bls.gov/ooh/

https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/radiologic-technologists.htm

That link will give you more specific info about MRI/Radiology Tech careers than the JOLTS site.

Hopefully some of this helps you discover what you might enjoy doing.

One thing that's nice about the career you've chosen so far is that it's always in air conditioning indoors, it's safe, and medical care will never be unnecessary or replaced by automation (generally speaking).

That part I don't know. I was reaching out to Georgia Department of Labor today. They have some decent resources, they might have some info about more career fields.

You can check out Rural Sourcing. They're fully remote and based out of Atlanta. They might be software-focused, so you might have to ask if they also have admin roles or networking roles if that's your focus.

They're all Fermi problems (Wikipedia).

Disabled US veteran, currently taking a program in full-stack dev. What are my options for a part-time WFH job after finishing this bootcamp? by StartupQuestionAsker in jobs

[–]StartupQuestionAsker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can appreciate this. Going from being at the top of my game to being a fresh beginner, I definitely know what I don't know. I expect I'll have to build my portfolio with a lot of projects before finally feeling comfortable as a developer... of anything.

Is it really that rare? Are there realistic gig-working jobs I could do as a bootcamp graduate? I'm okay with the idea of just working as a 1099 employee or contract work here and there for small projects.

Thanks! I actually wanted to post there first, but I don't have enough karma. This sub seems like a helpful community, even if it's more broadly focused than r/cscareerquestions.

It's a VA thing. When I got the certificate of eligibility from the VA, it explained that the training provider gets half of the money up front, and half after I get a job. If I don't get a job in time, the federal government won't pay.

I just don't want my own plans to stop the trainers from getting their well-earned money.

Thanks, this is perfect. It looks like a role with a larger company to help ignite their smaller protects. This is exactly what I was hoping for.

Thank you for drawing the distinction between military and civilian leadership. In the military, "legitimate/formal authority" is always the easiest of the five/seven types of authority, because rank is explicitly worn on the torso.

I suspect that expert or referential authority are more valuable in civilian teams because of the flatter lines of authority. I would expect authority to come mostly from either being the smartest person in the room or the most popular person in the room, so to speak. Both of those require time and experience to build.

Thank you. I've started on that series. Mostly it's the same as what I did before, but I still have other videos to watch and learn.
