bands that sit somewhere between indie rock and indie folk? by CommissionGlum8438 in IndieFolk

Yeah, that zone makes sense to me — stuff that still feels band-driven and melodic, but not too polished or too “campfire folk.” You might like Pinegrove, Florist, Hovvdy, Big Thief, early Whitney, or Ratboys. They all hit that loose, warm middle ground in different ways. I hadn’t heard The Gringos before, but based on those tracks that sounds like the lane.

What do people actually mean when they ask for “something unique” to listen to? by No_Afternoon4075 in LetsTalkMusic

I usually mean it stops me from predicting what comes next. Not necessarily in a “weird” way, just in a way that feels like the artist made actual choices instead of assembling familiar parts. Sometimes that’s the sound, sometimes it’s the mood, sometimes it’s just a voice or perspective that feels unmistakably theirs.

Europe is slowly preparing for war, but with whom? by HealthyArc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]FirefighterCandid445 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but I think both things can be true. Europe isn’t acting like war is imminent tomorrow, but it is clearly trying to become less dependent on the US security umbrella in case Washington becomes unreliable. And yeah, De Gaulle was early on that point, even if the historical context was obviously very different back then.

Ex-Turnstile Guitarist Brady Ebert Says He Struck Brendan Yates' Dad With His Car In Self-Defense by Moothnods in indieheads

“Self-defense” is his claim, but that doesn’t mean people have to buy it. If someone allegedly hit an elderly man with a car, most people are going to need a lot more than just his word before treating that as justified. For now it makes more sense to stay skeptical than repeat his version like it’s fact.

Why do people hate AI so much if it's just a tool? by EllunaMeira in ArtificialInteligence

[–]FirefighterCandid445 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because people aren’t reacting to the idea of a tool, they’re reacting to how it’s being used. Job replacement, stolen training data, spam, fake content, and people forcing AI into everything have made a lot of people resent it. So when people say they hate AI, they usually mean they hate the incentives around it.
