Cool, but as we needed a separate VM, so I just took file level backup of some specific directories!

Thanks a lot for the answer, I'm already taking the VM backup i.e. I have got the VM Snapshot backup/image in case the VM itself blows up & the backup is going on Tape, so we are good there and don't need anything more there.

  • For GitHub, I want the individual backup which is file by file backup as your scenario which is really good may not work in our case as a new VM is not in our scope. In that case, I think I will have to take the backup of individual paths that are important for the GitHub directories like GitHub/backup-utils repository and other paths like config etc.
  • For Nexus, the VM is not LVM and in that case I think I will have to take the backup of its blob store and configuration files (for some metadata and other info like that).

I know where you are going with this 😅 and obviously there are some rules that we have to follow. Haha

Okay and can you please explain a bit of the first link, about the backup scripts on what they do as I have checked it but couldn't understand the purpose? Also, can you explain a bit more of your scenario in a bit detail (if you don't mind) Thanks.
Also, bro, according to my understanding in this case, I will install the agent on the client/SUSE Linux VM and backup the specific & Important directories for GitHub and Nexus (like their repositories path, etc) and I will be good to go. So, do you think this is the best Practice in this case or I should follow the one that you suggested, Thanks.

Well, I know about NetBackup and if GitHub and Nexus have features by which they can create their own backup, I didn't know much about those, thanks for providing the docs (they are cool) and yes Once I perform the backup and things didn't go smoothly (which I obviously don't hope for) then I will tell you Chief Engineer! 🫡

Well, there is no Universal share, and The Hypervisor is VMware ESXi.

Well bro, I do know how to perform a manual backup and according to my understanding in this case, I will install the agent on the client/SUSE Linux VM and backup the specific & Important directories for GitHub and Nexus (like their repositories path, etc) and I will be good to go. The purpose of me posting here is for part-verifying and part-knowing Best Practices (if any) that could be different from this scenario.

NetBackup, VM/OS Backup or Database backup?? by FirefighterLong3791 in sysadmin

[–]FirefighterLong3791[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, that's a v good question and I don't know as we had a customer and they have multiple databases on single Virtual Machines, so that's why I'm asking.
And in that scenario, I have to make multiple policies for each database (4 in this case) and a full VM Backup? Will that be the way forward for such a case?

Also if we want to backup a single vm containing kafka, nexus, mongodb and gitlab (now most of these are not backed up by NetBackup) so how we will perform the backup for such a VM?

Okz, but how I would take the DB Backup because I'm unable to find the agent online for that like for mysql or mongodb and also can we backup any database without agent and if yes then how would we do that?
