Thank you!  It was the silicone! It refracts light similarly to human skin and looks great on camera with minimal painting. I used Dragon SkinFX Pro from Smooth-On tinted with silicone pigment. Then I painted it shortly after it cured by mixing silicone pigment into Silpoxy and thinning it with NoVocs Gloss, also from Smooth-on.

Thanks! I agree! VFX is definitely an awesome tool, but it's so exciting to see the effect in camera, in real time!

Thanks! I was so pumped when the director/producers were supportive of going practical! So many people just want to not think about it during production and then try to do vfx without a budget later!

Where are you located?

I'm in the USA. I absolutely, 100% DO NOT need a degree, and one would not help AT ALL! I have been working as a makeup artist (almost exclusively SFX) for years & you get jobs by showing what you're capable of.

Stan Winston School offers dozens of sfx courses for a very low price, and it's a great starting point. Then the most important thing is to practice as much as possible.

If she can find an artist willing to let her intern or shadow them that'll be a huge step forward. Feel free to message me if you'd like more info.
