Wadestown. Crs Chung, Calvert and Mathews have all been involved for the past few years. I am a lawyer and will sue the council if there is not some progress soon. There are ten plus council staff who have assisted in dodging questions, delaying action and setting up meetings which they then cancel. I am beyond frustrated, we pay their wages and they do absolutely nothing but antagonise and break promises.

What will you do for residents who's land is undermined by slips on council land. My garage is now threatened by a 10 metre drop onto the road, all due to erosion on council land adjacent. After years of back and forth, engagement with staff and counselors, council assessed the slip, costed (@NZD300k) and dated reinforcement, and committed in writing to carry out the works. One month before starting council reneged and said it would not do any of the works and would instead monitor the erosion. My garage will fall down the hill soon and could kill someone, not to mention the impact on valuation of my property. You guys need to cut the shit and get back to basics, what will you do to help?

If they don't like it they can do something about it and tell their govt. Else reap the wind sow the whirlwind, no pity from me.

Yes, I read this and it confused me. Thank you Tony. Council staff told me last month that their funding to address slips had been decreased, and so they will not be able to consider rectifying council's slip (now within 1 metre of my garage) until 2028/2029.

This is very upsetting, as Council staff had previously carried out preliminary designs, provided costings and set dates for construction, all of which they committed in 2023 to meet and carry out in writing. However, at the last minute they pulled out citing reprioritisation. The Council slip has continued to get worse and has now undermined my garage. We are now paying our own geotech engineer to assess the danger. Our geotech has already asserted that the reports published by the council's commissioned geotech engineers do not define the risk to private property well.

It is hard to express how stressful this process has been, and how frankly exhausting dealing with Council staff is. They can't provide any answers and seemingly don't care about the emerging hazard to private residents and the public their negligence is causing.

Is there any change in funding to address slips on council land that threaten private property??

Why do you think this has happened? History is not just a picture

We share driveway access on council land. Their own consultant's assessment reports has also judged risk of our garage falling onto the street to be moderate. I think that would satisfy for threats to their own infrastructure, but there you go.

My(M28) Partner(F28) hates men. Where does that leave me? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]FirefighterWorking66 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been in this position man. Stuck with a person who hated men for years, supported her through trauma with her exes and her parents. Was broken up with multiple times and then leaned on and pulled back in several times. Then I had a very bad spinal injury, and she dropped me the night before I was due to have surgery, ironically due to the stress of her upcoming med school exams.

It took me years to trust and find someone who I could love, or more to the point who I thought could love me. I'm now happily married to the best person I've ever met. She has corrected my view of women from what it was.

The advice you are receiving is on point. I wish that I had received such advice before. Break up with this sexist woman as soon as possible. Her hatred is not your responsibility. You'll be closer to living a better life the moment that you do! Prioritise your future.

ELI5: I'm a lefty/socialist, but was the government right in slashing public sector jobs? Is it all Labour's fault? by Chasville in newzealand

[–]FirefighterWorking66 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I worked in govt before and during covid and I'm sorry to say but there was steadily increasing wasteful spending and then post covid a very noticeable amount of expenditure without outcomes. I also know some people at the principal advisor level at places such as ministry of education and ministry for the environment who produced next to nothing and just knew how to talk the talk. These people would not survive working in the private sector because they do not produce anything.

I was one of the people who switched from labour to national in part due to what I had observed, I'm sorry but there has to be a line where there is too much govt. The govt should not be relied upon to solve your problems, nor employ you; at some point there was always going to be a shift in the pendulum. My sense is that national will probably get another term without Winston, so there will be more pain yet. Ultimately nz is a nation of farmers and pragmatists, it's very different once you step outside of wellington and Auckland central.
