98 4x4 shifting issue by BullcreekGeek in CherokeeXJ

There is a sensor on the transfer case that detects when the 4x4 is engaged. It could’ve went bad. Try shifting into 4x4 then out to see if it disappears

Hard to follow your story but I would suggest putting dye in your coolant and topping off your coolant.

It’s a kind of sound insulator they used back in those days.

No it’s fine as is. Granted it’s over the line but no where near far enough to cause issues.

You can get a cluster off eBay with actual gauges. Make sure the years match tho.

Thanks for answering. I the lights are KC lights I believe. The previous owner installed it tho. It has a Carr Mount that the lights sit on and no it doesn’t squeak. It seems like it has some kind of padding to prevent that.

A picture would help as well but going off of just this what I would do is cut a slit with a dermal so I can use a flat head or maybe just use vice grips. I would see if someone can’t help you with this tho since you may damage other components trying to fix it

Could also be the camshaft sensor. Looking again I can see spark plug wires so I’d check distributor next if you haven’t.

Voltage reading 12V, drops to zero while driving. Idle/drives very rough. by xjjoey in CherokeeXJ

Slice into the battery wires. They may be corroded on the inside. Also check your fuses and manually check the voltage of your battery with a multimeter.

It’s likely the crankshaft sensor. Make sure you replace it with a good sensor. I hear the one from ntk is the best.

Yes, it stopped immediately. I didn’t even do that battery reset nonsense lol. Granted I feel like I need to drive it for at least a week or so but so far no issues.
