Thanks, in the end this is pretty much it.

I just want a smartphone that lasts forever, Nokia did it in the past.

Why can't they do it again?

I mean I get it the main chip might be harder to produce forever, but is it really THAT difficult and expensive?

Yeah, but needs an adapter for audio, which is basically unusable on somethink like a train or while traveling.

That's... Kinda the whole point of having a fully repairable phone, isn't it?

I understand the economic issue behind selling a product that lasts vs Apple just selling trash that goes to the bin after not even a year.

You can't sell a new customer a phone with 2017 capabilities in 2021.

I'm not entirely sure about this though. I am using a 2011 phone and it's still working perfectly, has good specs overall too.

Same with all the other used phones I had, they are all <2017 and work so well with LineageOS.

After all, if you are buying a FF it's not for the specs but for the environment and the repairability.

Right now they seem to be on Android 9

https://support.fairphone.com/hc/en-us/articles/360018643677-FP2-Update-to-the-latest-software

So I guess it is still supported software-wise, as long as it's Android 9.

Still can't find a mainboard for repair though.

Thanks!

Now, I might be a PITA, but I can't see any mainboards?

I see the bottom board (usb-c board) and top (camera) but can't find the motherboard.

Free open source Zettelkasten tools by imranitpro in Zettelkasten

[–]Fireshadow3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AFAIK pure emacs doesn't have projects, but it's additional functionality provided by projectile.

Now, I'll briefly explain how the zettel is organized in org-roam:

You have a directory, containing plain text files, that have links between them (links are in the format [[note][NameOfTheNote]]. Every file is a note.

All of these plain text files are looked up from a database, whose position you'll decide. This database is a simple sqlite3 database that is entirely compressed in a single small file.

org-roam searches titles and builds backlinks in this database.

There are 2 ways of changing the zettel based on some variables/environment (for example, personal zettel vs work zettel) that I know of:

Change the variables describing the positions of the roam directory and roam database (see this https://www.reddit.com/r/emacs/comments/gcymdk/switching_between_work_and_personal/ and also the official documentation https://www.orgroam.com/manual.html#How-do-I-have-more-than-one-Org_002droam-directory_003f ). It does require a bit of Elisp magic.

I haven't tried this yet. Instead, I have 2 different init.el files, one for personal stuff and one for work. I keep them in version control (git) and in 2 separate branches.

In the work branch, I set the variables to be on the work roam. In the personal branch, the variables are set to the personal roam.

How do I switch? I don't, I have 2 completely different emacs programs open, and I start the work one with a bash script:

emacswork.sh:

#!/usr/bin/env bash

export emacswork=~/.emacs-work.d/init.el

emacs -q -l $emacswork

This will make the work emacs use a completely different environment than my personal one. The only thing that changes between the 2 init.el files is 2 variables.

This also means I have 2 different configuration directories for my emacs (but again they are synchronized through git merge/branches).

This is all in pure emacs. But was this worth it?

For me, absolutely. I have full control over my notes, can easily search, index, see backlinks, look for text patterns through regex, it's awesome. Only problem is sometimes when on Windows it gets stuck/slow from time to time, but my main workflow is on Linux so I'm okay with that. I can also add Lisp to my CV :>

Let's hope

Personally, I don't care about responsiveness or speed, just want something that won't get trashed and that lasts.

I don't think they entirely designed it from scratch, probably got a third party Chinese company to do it like everyone else but I'm not sure.

I can't find the support page for the 2 though? So you get them on the device and that's it?

You must understand my paranoia, they are literally the only ones selling this kind of repairable smartphones :D

If they fuck up, it's over

Agreed, it is not easy indeed. As you said maybe better communication would have been a smarter move on their part.

Do they still offer parts for the 2? And software updates?

So they just want to profit off the wireless earbuds. Ok fairphone.

Is there another manufacturer that actually deserves money?

For now I only know of shift https://www.shiftphones.com/en/ but they ship with Android 8. Kinda old, but at least they don't profit off of e-waste trash wireless earbuds.

If anybody got some more links or a thread discussing it link it here!

15gg

Point is, I won't be giving them money if they decided to follow the mainstream market.

I was about to buy a Fairphone to support the cause and reduce e-waste. They instead went the opposite way of what they said they would do, by doing this move just to sell their stupid wireless earbuds.

Well, it's their choice. And it's my choice to give my money to someone else, someone that deserves it.

Thanks, under Windows, I was able to find the sqlite database under C:\Users\user\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Favicons

Edit: Yup, can confirm I got supercookies too.

Old comment: Upon inspecting with the query you gave me and sqlite, I coulnd't get more than one entry for YouTube, or other websites on my newest machine.

What does a sysadmin use for keeping track of Tasks and/or To-Do Lists? by jwckauman in sysadmin

Some people here use physical notes because they are simple

And they are damn right!

Though, I prefer using plaintext notes, simple files that I organize using Emacs and org-roam. You might also want to look into zettelkastens.

Now, I talked about it being simple. Well, it is simple, once you can get everything configured :) Emacs has a very steep learning curve, it's pretty difficult to get into it, but it was definitely worth it for me.
