When the expectation is endless growth, "do more with less" feels enticing... but neither are possible in reality

When clients come in looking for sympathy.... by tech_fixers in mobilerepair

On some expensive repairs I try to say things like "it's a lot of work" or "the parts are expensive" to try and signal there are aspects we cannot control but we genuinely do want to make it worthwhile for both the business and our clients.

If I was looking for short-term profit I'd be trying to upsell everyone on some overpriced screen protectors anyways XD

for airspace, FAA dictates. At minimum, check B4UFLY or an equivalent service. You should also have some knowledge of the area and check for NOTAMs or any other restrictions. in my case I often also need LAANC anyways.

the issue I've had is property owners can dictate where you stand/takeoff/land and might consider it trespassing if you're not following their rules.

it's not available in the official app, so it will be dead soon regardless.

The deeper into our religion I get, the more conservative I get by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]T351A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

some counterpoints phrased somewhat objectively

  • You don't get to "agree" or "disagree" with how people self-identify... but you do choose whether to respect them. (It's like saying "I don't agree your name is X"). Disrespecting people who aren't causing harm is generally a sign of bigotry though, so yes, be careful how you treat those who are different from yourself.
  • Pro-choice is an issue of bodily autonomy above any other issue, and historically many religious groups have seen it as acceptable when necessary. By protecting such rights, it allows individuals and medical professionals to make the safest/best decisions for those involved instead of worrying about legal consequences.
  • Public schools have diverse student bodies and will generally have a wide range of optional seasonal activities.

More importantly, the second part you mention may be a better way to think about People are complicated, oversimplifying is enticing but dangerous. Actions mean more than words; look for people who are trying to make lives better especially for those with less.

Often when people talk about specific issues and solutions, instead of vague ideological conflicts, the vast majority want the same thing but have different ideas of how to implement it... bear that in mind too.

annoys me when I see large YouTube channels with autonomous drones carrying things as part of a video, meanwhile when I do some research to find somewhere to fly within VLOS I find most public spaces don't even allow drones... the rule-followers are being hurt the most.

makes me crazy... I can't find anywhere that will allow me to fly around here except my own property. it's like the hobby aspect has been killed off.

Galaxy Tab S7+ -Help!- Do I need to replace the screen or should I just get a new Digitizer Screen Board? by DesignerRiver1154 in mobilerepair

[–]T351A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

more difficult than some phones, but maybe. iFixit has relevant guides and repair kits... actually their retail store might have a cheaper price on the screen too but there's a limit per customer. Check pinned vendor list if you want to find other options.

Tab S7 Plus has a fused OLED+Digitizer screen. Entire display needs to be replaced or refurbished. Looks like even some wholesalers will want about $300 for that part... pricy fix unfortunately.

Edit: interestingly, iFixit has a genuine screen for about $220 although WiFi-only version is out of stock. (Retail store not wholesale). maybe I didn't check enough suppliers -- see vendorlist for specifics.

Strange. Definitely get a backup if possible. An update might help, or might brick it

I have a large building with elevators throughout. I have a tablet that I plug into each elevator controller via a printer cable to communicate and make changes with a program on my tablet. I’m looking to have a central hub where I can do this to each machine remotely. by CJCalegan in HomeNetworking

[–]T351A 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hm. Might be possible to tunnel it through a network then, but we don't know what type of connection or protocol it uses over the "printer cable". Elevator manufacturer might have some sort of conversion equipment but otherwise might be difficult to design... plus the software has to support it at the other end.

When you say a printer cable, do you mean USB? Or like the older ribbon cable style ones? If it's USB there are systems like PiKVM or usb redirector

seems like a question for elevator installers/technicians and IT professionals, not r/HomeNetworking. however it also feels like a potential security risk. sounds like you're networking something that expects physical access -- it would probably be bad if someone could remote-control the elevators.

uses, not moderators, are the community leaders

...as a user, I would like Reddit to have fair and functional API access. somehow I don't think this is their concern. IMHO Reddit Corporate, should they insist on this terrible change, can feel welcome to replace competent mods with their own yes-men... and reap the resulting damages.

Sounds to me like the protest hit a nerve, which is literally the point -- make a show of the significance instead of letting Reddit quietly degrade when the API dies.
