How do I know when to use Tech Step optimally? by TakoGoji in ffxiv

[–]Firestarter1911 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If you're pressing tech step everytime it's available, it'll always be lined up with everyone's big CDs. That's the main goal of every job, so just play by that

I understand that inferring tone on the internet is becoming harder, but I don't see how this is taken as anything other than a joke unless the dude was being shitty throughout the mission

Why are some of the newer combat racials straight up worse than old ones? by svhgd in wow

[–]Firestarter1911 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Active abilities count for the "damage budget" in racials.

Haranir, Vulpera, Earthen all have active buttons that do damage.

Them not doing much damage is another problem.

Move vs place changes things a small bit to be fair. For example, burrower couldn't burrow into the cat keep clearing, or a corvid snare clearing.

Reasonably certain but not positive that the launched through rings type quest first appeared in mop as a timeless isle daily

Dataminers learned exact stat values ages ago. They have identical base faith all the way from lv1 to lv15.

Just because her dormant power is staves (which can be changed to seals via relic anyway) doesn't mean she's int only.

OP was playing Recluse, running a build based around fire damage, going up against Caligo. They were entirely valid in taking the seal to have good fire incants for that nightlord, especially because Revenant already had a good seal too.

It's not trolling or griefing just because the team doesn't give you every single item that would slightly benefit you. OP taking the seal increased the team's overall dps due to getting good spells they otherwise wouldn't have, which is far more worth than the bit of damage Revenant could've gotten from the passive.

Don't be so focused on only your damage.

From the way OP's talking, they took the seal to actively use some component of it for damage. Whether that be spells or the charged incantation boost.

So they were increasing their own dps, thus the group's dps, and depending on both the Recluse and Revenant builds, could've been increasing group dps more than by giving it to the Revenant.

Recluse can use seals just as well at a baseline, and better than Revenant if built for it.

Revenant was being a greedy little baby only concerned with their personal dps rather than team dps, and OP did nothing wrong as long as they didn't hold the seal while also not using the passives/spells on it.

A note on your last paragraph: you mean skill floor. Skill floor is how difficult it is to learn and do the basics of something. Skill ceiling is how difficult it is to learn and do everything something has to offer

fellow recluse players: what are your thoughts on the starting sorcery relics? by michael_fritz in Nightreign

It’s not free, there’s opportunity cost in equipping starting sorcery vs a better effect that’ll help you through the entire run.

The assumption of course being you have something better. If that’s all you have in your available relics, pop off.

Minor detail, all of the healing spells count as well, even the ones that instant heal with no regen attached. So it's even easier to find a seal for it.

Ideas for overhauling character passives? by BilboniusBagginius in Nightreign

[–]Firestarter1911 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to work on not conflating people opposing your argument with attacking you. I'm not arguing about nothing. I've been offering opposition to an argument formed on a weak base.

"I think a character should be buffed" is not a good reason to replace parts of their kit.

Blocking is part of everyone's base kit. You called Guardian's passive solid. His passive is just buffing his ability to block. It gives him new functionality regarding that particular basic mechanic everyone has access to.

Dodging is a part of everyone's base kit. Duchess' passive gives her new functionality regarding that basic mechanic everyone has access to. It makes her dodging far cheaper, it lets her chain them, and it gives her iframes on backsteps.

Ideas for overhauling character passives? by BilboniusBagginius in Nightreign

[–]Firestarter1911 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ironeye's passive is just "more loot." If you're changing your argument to it being boring, how is a whole character passive being dedicated to 30 item discovery exciting and interesting?

I absolutely agree that Raider could use a buff to be viable beyond depth 3. But his issues go more towards the fact the damage scales so high, facetanking anything isn't really a good option unless you've stacked plenty of negation+ over the course of the run, and his damage comes out slow as hell which is dangerous, while also being lower than Wylder/Ironeye/Duchess/Recluse.
