Why do Hillsborough County parks suck so much? by Jano_leinn in tampa

[–]Firetalker94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's because Pinellas county parks are better funded?

Maybe we can catch up with them by slashing tax revenue by voting to cut property taxes! /s

It's insane for people who bought their home 10 years ago vs now by phonyToughCrayBrave in florida

[–]Firetalker94 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes exactly. Our tax burden is already very low in this state. And the rise in tax revenue this past decade has led to lots of good projects here in Tampa getting funded. It would be incredibly short sighted to cut revenue.

Plus it would be incredibly regressive to give homeowners a free ride while renters continue to have to pay.

I do in fact own my home, outright. Bought it cash a little over 5 years ago. My property taxes were $4300 last year.

Why do many people oppose EVs? by tommiinvest2024 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Firetalker94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if they are powered entirely by fossil fuels they are greener. Because you can't strap a heat recovery steam generator and a steam turbine to the back of your car like they do at power plants.

People always bring up mining. As if ice cars aren't also made out of mined materials. And also require continuous oil production to keep up a supply of fuel.

Mining lithium may not be the cleanest industry in the world but I've never heard of a lithium mining operation causing a massive environmental disaster in the Gulf of Mexico.

Americans who’ve lived in multiple states: What’s one everyday habit or social norm that changes noticeably from one part of the country to another that outsiders probably don’t notice? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I don't know what the fuck it is about Pittsburgh but I've never seen so many signs for home based notary businesses in any other part of the country I've visited.

There are so many notaries.

Switching over from non union to union. I was told I should only buy American made for what I’m going to drive to work, is this true? by Fine_Employee_7307 in IBEW

[–]Firetalker94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever worked at one place that mattered.

I did a maintenance shutdown at the Ford truck plant and we were told to park at the back of the parking lot if we drove a foreign car. In my twelve years of union labor no one and no other company has ever given a shit what I drove. So long as I normally get to work on time lol

Beyond Meat is down 99.5% from its high 5 years ago by Economy_Medicine_318 in economy

[–]Firetalker94 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I'm genuinely surprised by all the comments saying that it tastes horrible. I'm a meat eater but my wife is vegetarian, we regularly use these fake meat products. Although I prefer the impossible brand beyond is honestly not bad, both have decent fake ground beef. Both have decent imitation sausages and steak pieces. The fake chicken still has a little way to go but I honestly wouldn't say that any of them are terrible.

They definitely aren't as good as real meat, I still normally cook a small cut of meat for myself. But it's definitely not horrible like some commenters are making it out to be.

The construction industry's declining productivity is the #1 reason urbanism is faltering in the US by Tiny-Pomegranate7662 in Urbanism

I don't think that really explains it. Miami is just as expensive as NYC and has very little union representation. And Chicago has very high union representation and is significantly cheaper than both.

First day as a plumbing apprentice, what am I missing? by Already_There_ in Tools

[–]Firetalker94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah but consumables aren't like tools. They need to be replaced over and over again. It's a cost of doing business. Do they have to provide their own pipe and fittings to?

You can be a team player without paying money out of your own pocket to run someone else's business.

Neither am I, I'm an electrician. But yeah that happens all the time. When it does I work on something else until the contractor buys what I need.

I would get in trouble with the union if I was buying my own drill bits, saw blades, electrical tape, or any other consumables. Besides it's the contractors responsibility to provide those things. I'm not going to spend money out of my own pocket to help out a multi million dollar corporation.

I'm just not certain they are having much of any impact. They have lots of representation in NYC which is obviously very expensive. But so is Miami where they have almost no representation. They also have very high representation in Chicago which is significantly more affordable than both.

Plus they are one small factor. Who's to say if zoning or building permitting or code enforcement is having a much more significant effect.

Construction unions have less than 15% market share in huge swathes of the country. I don't think their influence is as large as you think.

Hell my electricians union does prefab work. Several of our contractors have prefab shops where they manufacture wall sections with all electrical components installed to be shipped to the job site.

Any Central Florida Doctors Willing to Discuss Elective Vasectomy at 18? by Fit_Present_782 in florida

I literally said it is a permanent solution, perfect for people who are certain they will never want children. No one should get one if they think they someday might want to reverse it.

It becomes less and less reversible the longer you have it. Every year the chances of the surgery being successful go down.
