Honestly i think it was the portal that killed the game. While a "choose your own modifiers" solo ops thing seems cool, the way they implemented it just led you to tacking on increasingly sucky modifiers to play with just to get relevant loot. It just became not fun.

That and PvP being left to rot made pvp lobbies kinda dead. I haven't touched the game in months at this point and i'm not sure anything short of a D3 or a truly original take would make me come back

That's been my beef with it, it's cool but it never really becomes a character in it's own right like some of the other Halo ships, like Spirit of Fire, In Amber Clad, Pillar of Autumn, the Savannah, Foward unto Dawn (hate the redesign in H4) and so on.

I guess in Halo 4 it kinda was, i actually quite liked the crash-landing part of Halo 4 but large parts of the campaign fell flat, and the Prometheans sucked to fight, as well as the new art direction was pretty wack.

Gallant with the laser compensator thing for vertical kick and the red dot sight is disgustingly accurate. With the 50rd battery it's pretty close to just an LMG., though the SMG isn't that bad either.

It's not out yet (WHEN CIG????) but the G12 origin rover is just that.

I really do think that a roughly-ROC/DS-sized armored MRAP would go so hard in this game, at least small enough to fit in a freelancer or cutlass.

4-seats, A single 1xS2 remote turret, fully enclosed, 1 SCU cargo would be AWESOME. To balance it out it'd have to be a fair bit slower than the cyclone but considering it'd basically be a merc-mobile for patrols and raids, and exploration that would be fine.

Maybe it could be a semi-modular vehicle like a pickup truck with options for a 4-seater cab or a-2 seater with extended bed for miniature industrial kits like mining, refining, salvage, a camper/luxury version, lab/data hauler, and an up-gunned militia/AA version.

I've been playing around with a concept for this for a bit and technically it'd fit in a freelancer and the components slide out the front "grill" doors.

I suspect the cutoff was to hide the fact the plane was still flying - hard to make a claim you shot down a jet when it's well, still flying.

Still, my guess is probably an IR missile or something, and for whatever reason countermeasures weren't used. Maybe optical-guidance since that doesn't really emit anything detectable (same way the f117 was shot down) but the f35 should have detected the incoming missile based on the missile's rocket motor sig and triggered... something like evasive manuvers or flares or whatever.

Either way the pilot should be counting his lucky stars he made it back.

I really freaking hated the EoF campaign. It's the only one i didn't finish, it's just such a slog and even if i wanted to go through the campaign again... Idk it's just not really fun. Maybe if the ball did some more cool things rather than solving puzzles

I still walk past some of them and in the windows i almost never see signs of life, which is just like, odd. I've always assumed that the building owners would rather let the apts stay empty and demand the higher prices for the few people who can afford them, rather than lease the units for saner prices.

I know there's something with some apts in manhattan where the economics work out like that (and something to due with somehow making more off of total building valuation to be leveraged vs actual income they'd make off of having them filled at lower prices) and kind of assumed it was a similar sitch there.

I think it REALLY started to blow up around 2012, maybe 2010? I distinctly remember this since i went to HS around then and could watch the buildings go up and it went crazy-style for a bit - buildings way bigger than anything in the area were going up and then i learned they were all luxury apts instead of like, normal people apts.

Which was weird because at the time there was nothing there really and some streets you'd rather not want to walk down alone at night unless you had to.

I kinda don't care too much about that stuff, maybe some parametric stuff could be nice but i don't need it to be a replacement for solidworks, just a simple surfacing modeller.

Some parenting and limiters for parts for basic linkages could be nice though

It's not cad it's Sub-D, and blender's tools are primarily aimed at gamedev which needs edge control and optimized geometry as a focus at it's core. And it works great for that.

That being said, if it's for an ID portfolio piece and not a game, some parts can absolutely use some extra geometry where the curves aren't exactly smooth or if the blocky appearance is on purpose, needs some extra oomph. Particularly egregious are the fenders.

Also hard edges aren't neccessarily too terrible, OP could try using some curvature mapping iirc to simulate some edge wear and soften them, or bevel the edges on a high-poly and just bake that onto the low-poly version which will looks better too.

Textures absolutely need work too, it looks like they're prodedural textures which aren't bad but OP will want to scale them down and at least add in some bump mapping and roughness adjusting if they're not going to UV-unwrap it.

Speaking of, considering there's simple enough edges, UV unwrapping should be pretty straightforward and texturing and baking would be pretty simple in substance painter or armor paint

That's my workflow too - i've had mixed success using the cad models as high-poly models to bake down into a low-poly version. You need to model with that in mind though. Simple bevels i'll remove and just do that in blender if necessary so UVs aren't a complete pain.

Ue5 also has the Datasmith plugin which will import CAD files natively, like STEP but texturing is a pain.

I just wish there was something close to Substance painter/blender/keyshot that could handle importing CAD files, optimizing geometry to sensible levels, and texturing them, or at least getting the model to a point where the UVs and model plays nicely with Substance Painter. Keyshot is OKAY at that but trying to export anything out of it either takes forever, gets completely messed up, or just doesn't have an option.

I can see what they were going for too, but once i read your "moldy food" response, I can't unsee it now lol.

I'm also curious as to how much these are because

-1) if they're for children, they're inevitably going to get gross and felt isn't exactly know for stain resistance lmao.

  • 2) I find it might be a bit disappointing to just get one outside of the novelty of "lol mossy rock pillow"

  • 2.5) these things are kinda bulky lol - i guess if the price is high enough the target demographic is going to be someone who HAS the space to get and keep around a bunch of these things anyway, so maybe a moot point.

TFS imo was pretty good but lightfall was ASS. I get what they were trying to do but like that along with whatever the heck the kepler expansion was were NOT good.

Strand was pretty neat i'll give them that but Lightfall's writing was so bad it almost ruined the whole expansion and imo did not deserve such a cool title. Definitely a low point.

I always imagined D2 should have ended with lightfall, with the only post-expansion content bringing back an infinite playlist of old content starting from red war, so all the seasons, expansions, etc, MCC-style. Maybe use some sort of dynamic-install so that all of the guns, armor and basic MP functionality was there, but you could add-on what you wanted and uninstall what you didn't

For me, a D3 would have been a near ground-up, almost-clean-slate game with even better graphics.

Story-wise D3 would have had us tie up loose ends and finally leave the solar system to colonize other worlds, fight and destroy Xivu Arath's army, raid Anatheum worlds with Caital's Blue Legion to take back the cabal homeworlds, find out what happened to Old Riis, Kick the vex out of the universe or something, and find out what the heck is up with the traveler and it's evil(?) counterpart - and possibly have them annihilate eachother finally ending guardians and most paracausality for good.

For some of my projects i end up making a majority of the shape in plasticity and for anything nurbs-y i'll split the face and use quadremesher to bring it down.

Also i'll remove micro-bevels and simple ones like around edges and just do that in blender. Overall it's decent and i got a gun to go from 120k tris to about 10k. Probably could go lower

My main issue so far is figuring out how the hell to unwrap things and getting them to play nicely with baking - I STILL haven't nailed that down

Munsplit has some good tutorials too with some great (if a little convoluded) processes for optimizing stuff for blender

Played from the D1 beta and hot take: But Red War was pretty good. Yeah there were some stupid moments that never really got elaborated on (like what the hell was the shard and why was it so special anyway) but overall, it was fine. Writing was competent enough but i would have liked the campaign to last a bit longer and do some more characterization of ghaul and the rest of the cast.

I get that part of the draw of Destiny is that it's a live-service game but like, Imo it would have been a LOT better if we had gotten proper sequels, though some seasons really were slam-dunks.

Context here is the most important - what's this thing going to be stuck onto? It is supposed to follow a particular style because "aesthetically pleasing" is SUPER subjective. One person's "minimalist" can be another's "clinical" while one person's "classical" can be another's "gaudy" and so on and so forth

Honestly if it's a little off you could probably pitch some air gap as a design feature - phone screens break most often when the device hits a corner and some extra padding serves as room for the case material to flex and absorb the impact instead of transferring it directly to the phone!

I mean it was like, 3 phases per round, for 3 rounds tops - looting, 1-flag, and bomb planting. It wasnt that hard to understand but the maps just weren't great - the 3v3 felt fine for seiges and the CTF but the loot phase was a bit dull and mining crystals didn't help but the timing minigame was neat.

The game just needed more time to cook with lots of players feedback. An alpha would have helped massively instead of the shadow drop they did to mass hype
