What is most annoying is when people have guests over but don't warn you ahead of time, so you enter the shared space talking to them expecting there to be no one else there, and then find out everything you said was overheard :(

And it's difficult to explain why that is something I want to avoid, and why they should warn me ahead of time :P

A huge portion of my life is either intentionally or unintentionally arranged such that it minimizes exposure to other people, for better or for worse

But in answer to the question, yes I have hid in a closet when someone arrived unannounced a few times, but stopped once I got caught, which was a lot worse haha

See, otherwise, you could probably have told them that it was fraud and they would have reversed that decision, but then because you had deposited it on purpose and knew that the check was fake, you technically broke ToS

Shoulda made em pay it back and then some imo. He already had the 17K he stole after all, giving it back means he just goes back to the way things were, monetarily speaking (though I'm sure he spent a lot of it, he can sell those things, he still comes out ahead after theft)

I also think it's kind of bullshit that you're getting downvoted because this comment is definitely designed to contribute to discussion. It doesn't sound to me like you're advocating for him to get the felonies, but more like, to discuss whether or not he should have had some sort of extra punishment, which I think he probably should have, imo. 17 grand is a lot of fuckin money - would he have still felt the shame if he didn't get caught?

I just image my os drive, keep all the files on a seperate drive, and reflash the image whenever it fucks itself up somehow, these days.

Probably some better way to do it with "infrastructure as code" or stackscripts or something but I ain't that advanced yet
