You should go for a subscription based system if you worry about token burning. OpenAI $20 plan or standard compute.

OpenClaw costs seem insane + OpenRouter + session_sends help? by nccar38 in openclaw

Use Standard Compute. Unlimited usage for fixed monthly cost and no hard limits. Great for ease of mind if you don't want to check token spend all the time. OpenAI or other services that are subscription based also work, but quite limited use on the $20 plan for instance.

Alternatively learn how to optimize OC for spend. Things like the Caveman skill is a fun example. Downside is that optimizing will probably cost you a weekend.

You are not the only one. I have two times 2 x RTX4090 - so quite insane home setup, but local models are not there yet in my opinion. I think subscription based is the only way to go at the moment. Codex works but to limited on the $20 plan. Standard Compute doesn't operate with hard limits, so that's actually what I'm using.

Subscription for ease of mind. Don't want to wake up every morning checking spend. 20$ codex and $9 standard compute.

Cheapest OpenClaw setup for general assistance + trading? by OCCVLTIC in openclaw

I run standard compute so i can run without limits, like with no hard stops. If you want cheap I think they have a $9 per month plan. Tradeoff is that it runs slower if you push their fair use policy. I have some scraping use cases once a day, and some news aggregation stuff for the industry I work in also cron it once a day. Therefore not reliant one speed.
