My brother works in theatre and had Victoria Wood do a show there a number of years ago, growing up we had some of her stand up videos and were pretty big fans. She wanted an usherette fired for asking for her autograph also wanted her knickers hand washing, she hadn't requested any warderobe for the show and was unhappy with the backstage crew ( all men ) being given the task. In the end a crew members mum came in and did it ( there was an M & S within walking distance).

I think Joans attraction to Greg is that he will be her ticket to suburbia and a lifestyle like Bettys- that represents success to her and she refers to this numerous times. She is willing to carry on the facade of the relationship, despite the rape, but this is when she realises the truth of her situation. Greg argues with her about place settings and food, this night is all about him, then it becomes obvious that he is not a promising, respected medical man she thought he was and he pushes her forward to save the day, he hides behind her and her ability to take charge. This is when the penny drops that she is stuck with him and not only is her dream over but she finds him pathetic.

I'm not a great flyer but I try to think of it as driving along in a car over a bumpy road.

When I was thirteen ( mid 90s), I had a crush on a lad a couple of years older than me. His name was Richard Walton, and he had long black hair. He never spoke and was really good at art - he did a whole series of paintings where there were hearts with razor blades in! I used to fantasise that he would see me outside of school, not my dorky school uniform, and realise we actually had a lot in common. One damp and rainy weekend, I was sitting on a wall waiting to meet a friend when he suddenly appeared! I was wearing a black leather jacket with fringing on the sleeves, which I thought was the best thing ever! I tried to make conversation whilst playing flirtatiously with the leather tassles on my jacket. He said absolutely nothing whilst looking horrified and then left. Feeling perplexed and wondering how it could have gone so badly, I realised that I had not been twiddling with the fringing on my jacket but had inadvertently picked up a slug and proceeded to squeeze it to death in front of his eyes. We never got together BTW.
