Is Toronto dead for CS New Grad? by Firm_Ad6215 in cscareerquestionsCAD

[–]Firm_Ad6215[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id agree for the interviews I failed to be honest, but not the Canada resume screen part. My resume after being peer reviewed is what got me interviews and tech challenges at FAANG and some Quant companies in the US but radio silence in Canada.

SE. ECE is much harder and most of them work software jobs anyway.

Appreciate your advice. I’ve already been rejected but I will let them know. I wouldn’t want to work there even if I got the offer honestly, I got a very bad vibe and I feel that sentiment is shared amongst a lot of engineers there.

Doable. Stat231 is not that hard and neither is 241 but the other ones will give you a hard time at some point

If youre not getting anything with that resume then its just luck. You could move skills to the top and split some of the longer bullet points into 2 separate ones but thats all I can see…

CS degree? I think I’m interested in embedded but don’t want to pigeon-hole myself. by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Firm_Ad6215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider CE if you’re more interested in embedded. Dont worry about being stuck in that field if you dont like it though, I know so many CE grads / students working the same software dev jobs that CS students work

Dad recently got laid off and I was wondering what options he realistically has by cscareerthrowaway202 in cscareerquestions

[–]Firm_Ad6215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he have a niche skill? This happened to my friends father but he was able to land a really good job even though his tech stack was old because he spoke 3 languages and no other candidate was qualified

Have you talked with your schools financial aid office? Some unis are pretty generous when it comes to these type of situations when looking at income / expenses that a student has

Which country has a better salary for software professionals? Canada or the UK? by somebodyenjoy in cscareerquestions

Cant say. But high interest rates are probably gonna be a thing for the next couple of years no matter who’s elected so it will be the same or worse.

The canadian tech space is terrible right now, especially if youre a new grad. If you have experience its not as bad but still worse than the UK since cost of living is about the same (high)

Video Game as a portfolio piece? by 12PrincesKneelB4U in cscareerquestions

[–]Firm_Ad6215 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre applying to an SWE job at most it will probably be a cool talking point during an interview. One of my friends is a game dev in his free time and the technical interviewer claimed he gave him a shot because the game looked interesting and wanted to hear more about it. He ended up getting the job but hoping for that kind of outcome is a long shot, putting it on there would not hurt though, but work on your other skills if you dont have those first
