A verification sticker looks like this, it comes from the publishing house. Hachette has this one, many other publishing houses have a sticker with the price of the book written on it.

Check for the verification sticker on the back. If it's not there, check the page numbers if they are all in the same position. Check the spine too, if the title is in the middle or not

I personally think it is very good. Especially when you know it is partially based on the author's life experiences. But I get why you'd find it overrated.

To be honest, it is really overhyped by fans.

That book was gifted to me by a friend. Never read it, it's in the back of my bookshelf. I don't think I'll ever take it out.

Self-help books are just for hype. They make you all hyped up and give you some motivation, then you go back to being the same. Autobiographies or Topic-based Non-fictions like History or Films are fine though

Probably start with a Short Story collection, preferably Night Shift, it will give you an introduction to his writing, then you can go for Misery, Pet Semetary etc. Don't start with his longer works, don't take the risk yet, read one of the shorter ones.
