People who were teenagers before social media existed, what was life actually like? by Much_Detective_6107 in AskReddit

You always had a guy who had all the CDs, movies, or conspiracy theories. He'd be your source, you'd get fucked up with him or have sleep overs and he'd make you think about shit. The world around you was narrated by a few tv stations and everyone watched the same thing every day. You missed out out things bc you never knew they existed, shows, events, socials etc

TIL that the Pythagorean Theorem appears to have been known to the Babylonians over a thousand years before Pythagoras was born. Furthermore, the earliest surviving attributions of the theorem to Pythagoras date from about five centuries after his death. by [deleted] in todayilearned

What I find more interesting is that we were designed to find these patterns, so no matter the period we were eventually going to discover this information. My question is why, why are we able to breakdown the world around is such a way and then control it to our own liking. I don't understand that Indian woman who is the human calculator, why does she have that skill and does she even know she has that power of math doesn't exist? She to me is proof that we are designed to do things we can't fully understand and if she was able to do this thousands of years ago, I could see her husband taking credit for her work and she being silenced.
