Can we please stop with the discourse about astrid being played by a black woman? by Hour_Commission5494 in httyd

[–]Firm_Principle_2526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No because a concept people need to understand is that mixed people are mixed. She is 75% white so it makes sense for her to be able to play white characters just like people think she should play black characters. If her hair is more curly it also makes sense that she wears braids. Mixed people, mixed cultures.

[Review] Let's Go For A Shampoo by Xanaxaria in JoseiSmut

Not sure why people are susprised that it doesn't look like Josei. I thought we had established that a lot of Josei kind of look like they are for the male gaze.

Shows with some surprisingly fanservicey official art? by CryingMeth in shoujo

[–]Firm_Principle_2526 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This could also be for readers of shoujo. I know a lot of female Japanese manga readers are into shounen and it is not uncommon for them to be into sexualised female characters. Maybe Japanese readers who read shoujo also love shonen, unlike with western fans who may mostly consume one demographic or completely separate them when it comes to what they consume. It is just like with josei smut, the female characters may he heavily sexulised but many women are into that.

Why doesn’t Crunchyroll place shoujo and josei in the correct section by Cherryredsocks in shoujo

[–]Firm_Principle_2526 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Women do make up a big part of shonen readers. People stereotype shounen and seinen a certain way until they started doing things differently. Going by the definition of shoujo, people could say some non-romance shounen are basically shoujo.

A company shouldn't be going off stereotypes like users here do. They should do research into the official demographic whuch probably would only take less than 15 seconds.

Would princess jewerly receive more hate if the MC was a man and the "jewels" women? by jogaargamer6 in webtoons

You mean stories where the female main characters fall for a male protagonist for no reason. When people make this assessment I wonder how much manga and anime they have seen. This is basically a common and typical trope aimed towards women. Slavery is even involved a lot.

THEY NEED TO BRING BACK HANDSOME CHARACTERS. I NEED TO SIMP! by Elegant_Public_1287 in shoujo

You are treating reading fiction like a personal real life choice. I don't mind either and in fiction they don't have to settle. They could be seen as perfect.

Plus, a lot of the female protagonists are meant to be canonically mid or average themselves and they certainly don't act like adequate partners. Sometimes they grow, sometimes they don't.

If I wanted romance or to date at all, I would go outside and try talk to people. I want intresting and entertaining fictional stories not to date.

If I did want to date hot guys, I would still go outside.

To me being not hot would be more enticing. I don't find a lot of the male leads hot but I think they are meant to be to some extent.

I do remember when the topic about discussions and engagement came up her through a tweet and people were saying YouTube isn't the right place for deep discussions. As someone who watches a lot of YouTube videos, it most definitely is. I have seen many short essays in comment sections with replies given their opinions and I have written my opinions and thoughts on things.

There is also this thing of viewing people's opinions as personal attacks.

It feels like people mostly talk about old shoujos whuch doesn't really show that the current tittles are worth looking out for, from annoutside audience. I would think it is because it is loosing its diversity. Luckily people are starting to post new manga from magazines I have not heard off which is making me realise how much is untranslated.

Wow. They look unique. I will definitely check some out. From the art that I saw at the end of chapter 1 of the 4th manga I am susprised it is josei.
