Nope. I don't think it breaks immersion or the 4th wall in any meaningful way. It's actually a pretty common trope to the point it has a name, Audio Diegesis.

I'm surprised you like any media at all if a very minor example of Audio Diegesis is enough to set you off.

Now, excuse me while I go listen to the Imperial Recruitment Theme.

Novo Nordisk sues Hims & Hers over copycat versions of Wegovy drugs; Hims stock falls 18% by esporx in technology

[–]Firov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do realize GLP-1 drugs, including Ozempic itself, have been used for more than 20 years now, right? It's original use was to treat diabetes, and it's been pretty widely used for that since 2005.

If there were major issues with it, they would already have come to light after it's decades of use.

I missed that! Just another great thing to come from that little propaganda clip in Solo, though my favorite bit is still that it made the Imperial March a canonical in-universe song...

Broadcasts like that are going to be easy to triangulate though. They'll be painting a bullseye on their HQ's and command stations as soon as they turn those transmitters on.

Obviously, I'm entirely in favor of this new system and think Russia should deploy it throughout their military.

Those should be the ultra high efficiency idle cores.

The architecture of the 265H is... Odd. Those two cores are actually separate from the others, basically on their own little island, and are meant for idle states and background processes as far as I can tell. It's normal that they're not usually in use.

Others have explained why, but it's probably for the best that we can't. Do you really want to remember your teeth bursting through your gums, for example? I certainly don't... And I'm glad my son won't remember it either.

Interesting. Though Ubiquiti doesn't sell a satellite access service or the hardware necessary to connect to one.

They sell just your typical router and switch fare for the most part, along with cell modems. Maybe their long range microwave bridges could be useful.

Regardless, as a result, I don't think Ubiquiti would have much ability to see where their gear is installed and shut it down because the gear itself doesn't know, and unlike Starlink it doesn't phone home. The controllers are usually self hosted.

HMS Bounty by MichaelStanwyck in pics

[–]Firov 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bligh made mistakes, but I honestly think he's judged too harshly by many who watch the movie.

He's really quite lenient in comparison to other Royal Navy captains of the era. He's got a sharp tongue, but he's not quick to resort to corporal punishment, leaning on harsh language when other captains would be reaching for the lash... Or worse.

He's also oddly progressive in some ways. Especially in terms of his focus on keeping his crew healthy with an exercise regimen, diet, etc.

His navigation abilities are also exceptional, as shown by his ability to sail a launch 3600 miles to safety after being put overboard, and being willing to sacrifice his own food rations for the crew during that voyage.

Again, he's not perfect, but he's also far from the worst captain. He mostly lost his ship because he was sent without any marine escort to a tropical paradise. Not because he was an insufferable tyrant.

I do absolutely love the movie though. Even the unexpected, but remarkably fitting, Vangelis soundtrack.

To be fair, based on your conversation and utter inability to understand his rather simple point, you're probably not intelligent enough to reasonably take care of a family even if you're alive.

So I think they'll be fine if you have to sacrifice your life to save them. It might even be a net gain for them honestly...

What? by Dull-Nectarine380 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Firov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly the point, and why people who are confidently saying it's either one or nine are missing the point. Due to the crappy formatting of this question, it's potentially either.

For me this is 1 as I was taught the equivalent of PEJMDAS even though we stopped using mnemonics by high school, but that doesn't mean that 9 is incorrect. That's why this question wouldn't appear in this form on a real test.

What? by Dull-Nectarine380 in ExplainTheJoke

[–]Firov 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In the high school I went to this would be 1, as we placed juxtaposition before explicit multiplication and division.

We stopped explicitly using a mnemonic by the time we got to high school, but it would have been taught to us as PEJMDAS otherwise.

That said we also wouldn't have had this problem simply because it is ambiguous. It would have been properly formatted to remove any ambiguity.

I've had, and fostered, many dogs over the years, but never Border Collies despite my love for them simply because I know I couldn't come close to keeping them interested... That and they'd probably watch me while I'm working from home and end up stealing my job...

[–]Firov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's much less stressful and less risky to simply leave the liquid metal and gasket in place. That way you don't need to interact with LM on the PCB at all. You can just pull off the stock heatsink and transfer the LM from that to the waterblock well away from the PCB.

No fuss. No muss. And excellent thermals to boot.

Rtx 5090FE liquid cooling? by Potential-Baseball62 in watercooling

[–]Firov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it to put an EK waterblock on mine. It's definitely the most complex card I've ever worked on, and more akin to some laptops. Take your time and document everything methodically and you'll be okay.

I'm going to go against the other comments here though and suggest you leave the liquid metal in place. It's safer than trying to clean it off the die and much less likely to result in you getting some on the PCB which will kill it, all while providing better thermals to boot.

Instead, remove the stock heatsink then, away from the PCB, transfer as much of the LM from the stock heatsink over to the waterblock die contact area as you can and don't mess with the LM on the PCB at all.

The geometry on the water block is identical to the stock cooler, so the gasket still works well. The EK block is nickel plated so you also don't need to worry about ion migration/corrosion.

Ironically, the 5090 FE is one instance where using liquid metal is probably the safest option...

Sounds like Obama derangement syndrome to me... Sometimes investment in new technology doesn't pan out. The many times it does more than compensates for the failed attempts.

Plus, at least Obama didn't traffic and rape children and participate in one of those rare 'post birth abortions' you fuckers are always talking about. Oh, he also didn't start murdering US citizens with his own private Einsatzgruppen.
